Any Thought on The California Downtown

How much is a cab from aiport to The Cal and which route should I take ???

Any Thought on The California Downtown

Not sure about the cab question but the Cal just re-did all their rooms and they look pretty damn spiffy.

Any Thought on The California Downtown

If you don%26#39;t mind walking 2 blocks or so you can take the 108 bus from the airport to the downtown transit center and then walk 2 blocks from there to the California. The cost is 1.25. They have many inexpensive cafes at the Cal such as Market street cafe and the Aloha. I%26#39;ve had the 4 dollar steak amd eggs at Market place. Its just what you%26#39;d expect when you order a 4 dollar steak. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Cab will be about $20 give or take.

I%26#39;ve eaten at the cafe and had a very good prime rib special with all you can eat soup or salad bar, potato, veggie, roll and cherries jubilee for dessert for $7.25. There%26#39;s a couple of places on the second floor one being a little breakfast type Hawaiian place where I got my coffee for .50. I like the Cal overall. There%26#39;s an indoor connecting bridge type thing that goes to Main Street Station.

its alright.

boyd heavily markets the Cal towards Hawaii Gamblers. the food options there as a result are geared towards their tastes (myself included), things like saimin (a hawaiian styled ramen), spam, portuguese sausage, oxtail soup, kalua pork, and most importantly - sticky rice. they do also have ';pasta pirate';, which is their nicer restaurant featuring an inexpensive prime rib meal (i think around $15).

the casino is slot heavy, there%26#39;s usually action on the craps tables at all hours. table limits are low, usually $5, sometimes $3.

there%26#39;s also an enclosed overpass over main st that leads to a sister property, Main Street Station. many people prefer the garden court buffet at Main St. to any other downtown, likewise the 777 Brewpub is also held in high regard among folks here on TA.

for visitors from hawaii, if you%26#39;re not a regular at the Cal, you%26#39;re somehow required to drop in at least once...

I%26#39;ll be ddowntown from Dec 19-25. If your new to downtown I%26#39;d be glad to show you around. Do a search on chitowngambler. I%26#39;m not as well known as he is downtown but I%26#39;ve been to most of the places he has and would be comfortable taking you to the Atomic.

just my opinion, but since you asked, and i don%26#39;t want to be too negative...BUT, since I am a slot player, have found that the Cals slots must be at least 10 years old, with no new ones...and they don%26#39;t seem to pay anything..I haven%26#39;t seen any improvements or changes in the casino in years....Their food is not appealing to me, the casino is too dark for me, and there are so many better places to stay downtown...The Hawaii travel agents must be making a mint. If traveling alone, the previous suggestion to take the CAT bus from the airport for 1.25 is good.

i stayed there 2 days in march 2008. i liked the room, but i did find the slots tight as jungle did. the staff were very nice, pleasant and the room was fine. ice cream place had fine coffee.

Here%26#39;s my thought,,, I wish I would have been there 11/18... the dollar W O F was won there!!!!

I also just saw the article...

Woman wins $2.4M in her first trip to Vegas

HONOLULU (AP) -- A 24-year-old woman, on her first trip to Las Vegas, is worrying less about the nation%26#39;s economy. That%26#39;s because Jessica Agbunag won $2.4 million on Wednesday at a Wheel of Fortune slot machine at the California Hotel and Casino.

Agbunag, a baby sitter who graduated high school in 2002, was in Las Vegas with her boyfriend and family in remembrance of her grandmother%26#39;s birthday. Her grandmother was a frequent visitor to Las Vegas who loved slot machines.

The Wheel of Fortune machines were good to Agbunag.

She twice won much smaller amounts earlier this week at the same casino.

But on Wednesday, she inserted $16 into a Mega-Jackpot machine and it hit big. She said she plans to pay off a car and give some money to relatives.
