Anyone else going on Harrah's comps for New years Eve?

We are flying in NYE and arriving at airport at 9pm so I booked the airfare and got a great price so looked online to see what I was getting comped from Harrahs and it said 5 nights at all the properties again......so because we just became Diamond members on our last trip last month I thought instead of booking rooms online which we always do I would call our host to see if they were offering anything else.

She says that Harrah%26#39;s properties are not doing any checkins on the 31st but we could check in n the 30th no prob..I was like whatttttttt I already booked with westjet. She apologised and said she would call me right back (this was our host from Flamingo)

So she said she called over to Caesars as well and yes same thing there....I told her when I put the dates in comp it gave me 5 nights rooms checking in Dec 31st so she said all I could do was try it but it might come right back to me saying they couldn%26#39;t do it, well this was Sunday and I booked online and still have not gotten an e-mail back saying no can do haha.

Meanwhile I had left a message for my host at Caesars and he called me back but I didn%26#39;t want to tell him I talked to my flamingo host and what she said so I just pretended I called him for some other reason and told him we booked online already and were coming in on the 31st for 5 nights to which he didn%26#39;t say we couldn%26#39;t. I don%26#39;t know what to do now other than call Caesars maybe in a week or 2 and confirm my reservations for the 31st, what if we get there and they won%26#39;t check us in aghhhhhhhh Sorry this is so long but wanted to explain everything, hope I didn%26#39;t confuse you lol

Anyone else going on Harrah's comps for New years Eve?

Hello,

We are have a reservation at Harrah%26#39;s checking in on 12/31 for three nights. We are not Diamond members but did have one night comped. I called Harrah%26#39;s directly to make the reservation and have since called back and asked for a rate adjustment as the price had dropped a couple of weeks ago. No one has said anything about not accepting arrivals on the 31st. Now I am worried too!! As you said, I would call to confirm your reservations prior.

Anyone else going on Harrah's comps for New years Eve?

I am a little lost but I gather that you did an online reservation and are concerned that it is valid? With Harrah%26#39;s, the trip should show up in My Harrah%26#39;s online. If it doesn%26#39;t and if your hosts didn%26#39;t see it while looking at your account, I would be concerned. You need to get to the bottom of this now as the longer you wait, the harder it will be to get an alternate hotel if your reservation is rejected.

Last night I went on the computer to get rooms for the 31st %26amp; 1st without any problems. It came up comp on 31st %26amp; lst at Paris. I couldn%26#39;t get rooms at Caesars or Flamingo Go rooms so I book Paris %26amp; got a computer confirmation %26amp; email confirmation of my stay for NYE %26amp; NYD. I did see that in the agreement that you had to cancel within 7 days of arrival instead of 72 hrs was the only stipulation on there.

I should have mentioned we are paying 140 I think it was for NYE but the other 4 nights are comped at Caesars. I did get an e-mail conf# so maybe we will be safe.....yesterday I got an offer e-mailed for 3 nights at Mirage starting Jan 2nd, I am tempted now to change Caesars to 2 nights and 3 at Mirage....but scared to make changes at Caesars in case they say we can%26#39;t come dec 31st eek!

No one else going comped for NYE?

I got the Invitation for the Caesars NYE Party and comped rooms but this Year, we are making a trip in mid December instead. Its a blast to be in Vegas during New Years Eve, we brought in the New Year 2007, and everybody should experience it at least once. We however arrived Dec 29 and stayed through January 3. Dont know how check-in works on NYE, You do know they close down the Strip to traffic around 7pm? You may want to call them and find out which would be your best route and entrance in to Caesars.

:) Have fun!

Yes I read that the strip is closed down but can we not go into Caesars self park still I wonder? I forget the street name but I know when we leave self parking we don%26#39;t always go onto the strip.....oh forget that comment we aren%26#39;t renting a car this time lol Hmmmmmmmmm I wonder how a shuttle or cab can get to the hotels? Yikes now I am worried

Hi

My wife and I are flying to Las Vegas from the UK on the 31st Dec and are comped five nights at Paris. We have the confirmation number and the details showing in my reservations within total rewards.

I wouldn%26#39;t worry about it if I were you.

Cheers

David

With Your arrival time on NYE night, I would call Caesars and ask how they plan to handle arrivals after the Strip closes.

Glad I read this thread. Just booked NY at RIO. Comped two of the three days. I would not have thought you could get comped during NY.

Sweet... do people still say that?

South Point Casino

Am staying at Treasure Island in March, and was wondering how far South Point is from there by taxi?

What type of crowd is at the hotel? A band that used to play at House of Blues is their on Saturday nights.

Thanks

South Point Casino

A taxi would cost in the region of $25-30 depending upon traffic.

South Point Casino

A mix of tourist and locals.

Are you referring to the Spazmatics? If so, have you seen them before and are they good?

What kind of music do they play?

Thanks.

Both my boys work at a local place called ';The Boneyard'; and Spasmatics are playing there tonite... I know you probably don%26#39;t care but they were both complaining because they would be so busy tonite because of it...LOL :)

Kimberlyterry,

The Spazmatics are a great live band dressed up like geeks, that play 80%26#39;s music. If anyone has seen them at South Point, I am curious how the crowd is since it is off the strip. When they played at House of Blues, it was always crowded with a great mix of people.

Thanks mst2432. They sound like a band we have on the east coast called the Nerds.

I%26#39;d love to see them but our next trip is Sun-Sat so we won%26#39;t make the show.

I love 80%26#39;s music!

  • What do you like about going to Vegas in winter?

This will be my first visit to Vegas in November and I assumed the weather would be a little warmer. I know I will still have a great time, hey it is Vegas.

I think for about 6 years I only went in the heat of the summer before going in April. Summer is great for the pools, April is perfect weather for walking the strip and hanging outside.

    What is November great for?

What do you like about going to Vegas in winter?

even if it is cooler, the sun is alway shining,

    which makes it nice-we go usually in december %26amp;

it%26#39;s always comfortable, even at night-vegas is

    fun 12 months a year-

What do you like about going to Vegas in winter?

We are going in December for our first time, so your question is perfect for us too. When I say first time, I mean in the cold Dec. month, I like having the option (if funds are low) to amuse myself at the pool etc. I also love just strolling down the blvd in the heat of the day with a refreshing cocktail...(won%26#39;t have the pool option this trip) so this will be a new experience for us too. Just remember if they get a really cold spell, over there by Casino Royale, they have those cheap shirts and fleeces, and hoodies, if it were to get real windy or something.

thanks Vegaswannabe..... you just read my mind. I was looking for a fleece jacket today and could not find one. Thanks, I forgot about Casino Royale. Great place to get a cheap jacket. Yeah, one less thing to over pack.

I%26#39;ve gone in early December the past few years and will do so again this year. The weather has always been great. Can be a little cool at night but not unbearable. The days are usually bright and very comfortable.

Myinfo, and if you don%26#39;t feel like bringing the fleece jacket home, you can just give it to the first porn-slapper you see on your last day. :)

I would think November would be great for no crowds.

    lol mailgirl

since I over pack I will be bringing it home ;)

myinfo, finally the casinos are not freezing inside.

And, myinfo, Mailgirl just said on the Bellagio Wonderland topic that they dont shut down the Conservatory, so maybe You can experience their ';work in progress'; :)

I hope, I will check it out

The air is cleaner in the casinos in the winter. Lots of people and all those machines generate lots of heat. AC is expensive. In the winter they can use outside air for cooling, so you have more fresh air exchanges. It%26#39;s much easier to stroll down the strip and not worry about if your sandals are going to melt to the sidewalk. Usually it%26#39;s less windy than going in the spring, too.

  • Main Street Station Beer Prices

I was there last year and I cloudily recall the beers being only a couple of bucks.

Anyone been there lately that could fill me in on the prices?

    Thanks.

    Main Street Station Beer Prices

Sorry, haven%26#39;t been there lately, but will be there in two weeks. If that is not too late for you,I will report back with prices. I do know that Ellis Island, which has substantial beer, has raised its price for a brewpub beer to a whopping $1.50.

    Main Street Station Beer Prices

Oh, by the way, are you by chance MY cousin eddie? I have a cousin who we have always referred from birth as cousin eddie. Or are you referring to the movie Vegas Vacation cousin eddie? I have members in my family like that too. Anyway, hope you have a great Vegas vacation.

    Hey Cousin Eddie!

I%26#39;ll be in Vegas Dec 10-17 with one night stay Downtown, I%26#39;ll be sure and find out for Ya (unless youre going before me).

I read on another post where You were talking about your Vegas good times, and I have crowned You ';Vegas%26#39; #1 Party Animal';. ;)

I believe it was the post about Hangover Cures? LOL

Thats nice of you to say, thanks.

Here%26#39;s the link to their menu (look at page 7)...think this is the info you want? You may have to copy and paste this to get the info, or you can go to the Brew Pub page under dining on the Main Street Station web site. We visit about every time we are in Vegas.

    …boydgaming.net/mainstreet/…Triple7Menu.pdf

    Thanks Ducky

Ah, the Triple 7 ! I%26#39;m thirsty already.

I was there, yet again, in October and the regular prices are $3.25 for 16 oz. of their micro brewed beer but you can get the 23 oz. size for only $3.95 !

Their happy hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. and after midnight when $2.00 will buy you a 16 oz. measure.

Royal Red%26#39;s my favorite although most folks prefer the High Roller.

Thanks Rowdy, you are making me thirsty.

I will be in Vegas ths Christmas and cant wait.

I cunningly have convinced my entire family that this is better than Christmas at home.

My kids age adults so there is no real harm. At least not until I plow through the town on Christmas eve!!

And, Cousin Eddie is making me laugh as always!

    Thanksgiving buffet.

    Hi everybody ,

Me and my husband will spend Thanksgiving in Las Vegas this year and it will be our first time in the sin city . We are looking for a good buffet . Would you please give me any suggestion on which one is the best ?? I heard Bellagiio or Rio all suite are very good .....

    Thanksgiving buffet.

I think the Wynn will have the best Thanksgiving buffet. That%26#39;s where we are choosing to eat this year. I ate at the Wynn buffet in September and thought it was hands down the best one I have experienced so I am looking forward to my Thanksgiving meal there.

Last year we ate at Cravings, the buffet at the Mirage, and that was quite good. All the typical Thanksgiving fare plus all the usual buffet standards.

Several years ago we had Thanksgiving at the Mandalay Bay buffet - I thought that one was better than the Mirage.

But I%26#39;m betting on the Wynn beating the pants off of all of them for Thanksgiving.

Many people rave about Bellagio and Paris buffets. I have never eaten at Bellagio and wasn%26#39;t overly impressed with Paris.

    Thanksgiving buffet.

You may want to have a buffet the day before Thanksgiving, or the day after. On Thanksgiving many locals come out to have buffets, in addition to tourists, and the lines are hours long.

Either go VERY early, or expect to wait a VERY long time.

Thank you so much for the advice ,

so, even if i will make a reservation i%26#39;ll have to wait in line ??

Wynn has the better buffet %26amp; well worth the money.

Harrah%26#39;s also has a great buffet.

oh good topic! I was wondering which one to go to also.

I found the last trip out there the Buffet at PH was wonderful! THe crab legs %26amp; shrimp were split %26amp; were delicious.

The rio has always been a favorite %26amp; their seafood one is wonderful.

I also liked Luxor but have not been to that one for about 3 years now.

Have never Been to the Wynn am planning to go this time.

I htink i will go to the Wynn buffet. This is our first time and i am not sure i know how it works . If i call them and make a reservation ... will i be able to get inside right away or i%26#39;ll have to wait in line anyway ?? help !! If , so .. we%26#39;ll just go having dinner somewhere ..

most buffets do not take reservations - it may be different for a holiday buffet. If the info isn%26#39;t readily available on one of the website such as www.lasvegasadvisor.com contact your hotel concierge, they should have a list by now.

I would not suggest a buffet for T%26#39;giving - the lines will be horrendous - is this what you want?

I would prefer to make a reservation, most good places are full or have limited availability. If I couldn%26#39;t get in to a place with a reservation I%26#39;d eat cheap and easy on Thursday and dine better the other days - no meal is worth the hassle of a buffet line, at least to us.

Your hotel concierge can help here - contact them tomorrow. Maybe something as simple as a line pass, if they have your chosen buffet.

    Liccila -

Buffets do not typically take reservations, save for Bally%26#39;s Sterling Brunch. There may be other exceptions, for invited guests and the like, but typically you just show up and wait in line. The best way to avoid standing in line is to go during off-peak meal times. The lines on holidays are typically longer, but if you go earlier or later than traditional dinner time you can minimize your wait time. That%26#39;s what we always do.

    Enjoy.

We were staying at the Bellagio during Thanksgiving last year and passed the line for the buffet many times over the course of the day. If I had to guess, starting at about 10am, until 9pm, there were at least 250 people waiting in line to eat, during the entire time period. Plan for a long wait and bring your hand sanitizer. I can%26#39;t even imagine what the serving spoons would be like. We opted to have a turkey sandwich elsewhere since we knew we couldn%26#39;t duplicate a traditional Thanksgiving meal in LV without family.

I dont know about thanksgiving but I do know about every other day of the year.#1 definetly Bellagio, hands down. My husband and I LOVE MGM grand buffet(#2). Its a little bit cheaper and sooo good! Also I heard the wynn is very good for thankgiving. We went there and it was good but a little too fancy. There were alot of foods we didnt what they were. #3 I would have to say is planet hollywood buffet. We live in vegas %26amp; go to a buffet like once a month. These are the best ones we tried so far...

Trip Report 1st Trip to Las Vegas Nov 5-10

Well I try to keep this too the point and say what we did enjoy most and what we would do a little dfferent!

We left for Las Vegas on Monday morning using the virgin direct flights from Gatwick, please note if you have flown virgin before to New York, they use the older planes for this journey soan upgrade to preimum economy might not be a bad investment for this length of flight.

We were staying at the MGM signature Tower 3, amazing hotel however the talk about the walk is kind of true it is about a 10 min walk to MGM grand but it is nice to not have your room right on a casino floor (next time we would ask for tower 1).

When we arrived at about 2.30pm we ent straight down to the casino floor to see what it was all about, had a go on the slots and some roulette and hd a bite to eat a pizza place. That night just stayed in the MGM Grand, ate at the mexican which was ok and headed to bed at about 10pm (was so tired!)

Next day went to look at the luxor, New York New York (went on the roller coast, lots of fun) and had a craps lesson at NYNY which was helpful! After taht we got on the deuce bus up to TI and the Mirage. We went to the Secret Garden at the Mirage which was worth the money just for the dolphins but wasn%26#39;t a fan of the lions, just didn%26#39;t look happy! We had a drink in the Beatles Revolution bar which was cool. After that we went to see the Sirens of the TI, now it is a very cheesy show other half loved it (think it had something to do with the half clothed ladies) but I wasn%26#39;t a fan. That evening had the buffet at the MGM Grand which was ok.

Next day was our helicopter trip to the Grand Cayon. We went with Sundance Helcopers doing there sunset tour which was AMAZING! We got picked up from our hotel in a limo the tour went over the hoover damn and landed in the caynon were we had a champagne picnic. We took off as the sun was setting, the views were amazing and you land going over the strip with all the lights on.

That night our conceige had arranged for us t get on the guest list for the PLayboy Club and Ghost Bar at the Palms (was worth the list as saved $50!). These places are amazing and it is worth the taxi out there, they are both on about the 50th floor and the views were amazing. The limits in the Playboy Club were high but it was fun to the see the bunnies!

On Thursday we didn%26#39;t get up till about 12pm (had a heavy night before!) so we decided to have a little gamble during the day down at the MGM Grand and played BlackJack for about 3 hours both leaving the table up! That night we went over to the Venetian, amazng hotel. We had dinner in CUT, if you like steak go here, it was amazing! Then we saw Wayne Brady stand up show which was so funny!

On Friday we went to the Strasphere to go on the rides, the one that goes off the edge of the building I nearly died, I was so scared! We also had lunch at their Top of The World Restaurant, it was a good lunch and view but we thought the restaurant was looking a little tired. This was a good way to experiance the restarant with out having to pay the world! We then headed to Fremount Street which was an experiance compared to the Strip. We stayed for the light show which was cool. On the way back down we stopped to watch the Belligo fountains which didn%26#39;t disappoint.

That evening we went to see the Crazy Horse show in the MGM, I thought it was a very tasteful show, however it appeared some people didn%26#39;t get what they expected as they left! That evening we then played Blackjack to the wee hours with an Irish couple who happened to know his uncle in Ireland (small world)!

As you can tell we tried to fit a lot in, we also did a lot of gambling which I haven%26#39;t mentioned to stop repretiton, however a couple things I would say was if your new play towards the back of the casino where the limits are lower and the dealers don%26#39;t mind giving you a hand. We also found it to be much more friendly here and less smokey! My favourite place to gamble was in the MGM Grand they seemed the friendlist and nicest crowd!

I hope I haven%26#39;t gone on too long (never down a trip report). I loved Vegas and we are differently going to go back but may only do a 2 night trip as seen all the sights now so can concentrate on the gambling and drinking!

Wow, Beth, You just took me on a whirlwind Tour of Vegas! :)

You jam-packed a lot into those days/nights, what an adventure! It certainly sounds like You had a most enjoyable visit! We%26#39;ve been to Vegas many times, and You mentioned some things that we havent done, its always great to hear about other%26#39;s Trips, thanks so much for sharing Yours! :)

    Christmas in Pahrump

Going to be in Pahrump during the holiday season.

Any must see Christmas displays or activites in the area?

    Thank You

    Christmas in Pahrump

Why in the world would anyone spend Christmas in Pahrump? It is one of the least appealing towns in the entire Death Valley area.

If this is a visit to Las Vegas, do something in town for that day.

If it is a visit to Death Valley, there aren%26#39;t that many elaborate displays, but there is often a parade at Furnace Creek Ranch with decorated floats. It isn%26#39;t huge and spectacular, but it%26#39;s folksy and fun. Furnace Creek Inn is often decorated elegantly with luminarias and lighting. The main park resorts (Furnace Creek Ranch, Furnace Creek Inn, and Stove Pipe Wells Village) have special menus on Christmas Day. For details or schedules, call the Ranch desk at 760-786-2345.

    21st b-day celebration

We are heading to Vegas Jan 26-31 09. Celebrating 21st b-days for my son and bf%26#39;s daughter. There will be 8 of us staying at hgvc Flamingo meeting up with 4 others. Age span is 21-70. Have a few questions and figured this was the BEST place to go for answers. 1. What is the best (cheapest) way for 8 of us to get from airport to Flamingo while also being able to stop at a groc store for supplies? Or would it be cheaper to go after checking in. 2. A fun place to celebrate with a b-day dinner that would take res. for 12-16 people. 3. What is the best way to get to Fremont St. from mid-strip? Best meaning fast and cheap. Half have been to Vegas before but we had access to a vehicle. Renting again is an option but for that many it would be expensive and we do a %26#39;little%26#39; drinking so we wouldn%26#39;t likely find a willing designated driver. Fun for us would be drinking and dancing and a little bit of gambling. Thanks

    21st b-day celebration

    1. shuttle to the hotel from the airport. I usually take a cab but if you are looking for the cheapest way, take a shuttle. You can order your grocery through Von%26#39;s and they will deliver them to the hotel. Order before you go and arrange delivery for the time that suits you. You can do it online.

    2. Not sure about the restaurant. There are so many and I%26#39;m sure you can get reservations for your size group with no problem. We celebrated a birthday at Osteria de Circo last year at the Bellagio, overlooking the fountains, and that was really nice but since you are looking for inexpensive, I doubt that%26#39;s the place for you.

    3. You can take the monorail to go up and down the strip. $5 per day, $12 for 24 hrs, or $28 for 3 days. There is a monorail stop at one of the resorts, can%26#39;t remember which (maybe the Flamingo), and the resort has a shuttle to Fremont street.

    Have fun!

    21st b-day celebration

Thanks so much for that info. That certainly takes care of much of my concern. Having groceries delivered is something that I never thought of. I also didn%26#39;t know about the shuttle from the resort. Downtown is one of my favorite places. I am not a huge gambler, more of a people watcher and I feel more comfortable downtown. Our group that is going has a wide range of interests and food preferences so I am looking for all the info I can find. This forum has given me a lot of ideas already. Can%26#39;t wait!!!!!

tinlizzy: Personally, I would contact the Hilton Grand Vacations Club concierge to make sure that they offer a shuttle to the Downtown area. In looking at their website, I didn%26#39;t happen to catch that they offered this service, but I could have missed it.

Also, just to clear up something, the monorail does not go ';up and down the Strip';, but rather goes behind resorts starting at the MGM down to Bally%26#39;s/Paris, then heads east to the Las Vegas Hilton on Paradise Road, terminating across the street from the Sahara Hotel (still on Paradise).

Most of the restaurants will take a reservation for a large group, so it%26#39;s just up to your ';birthday boy and girl'; to decide what they%26#39;ll like. Keep in mind that a party of 12 to 16 will most likely have a mandatory service gratuity tacked onto the bill, just in case you need to budget for the dinner.

I would think the monorail going from MGM Grand to Sahara and back pretty much covers up and down the strip. I rode it many times and each stop has a list of resorts that are included in that one stop. One of them has listed ';Fremont Street - via xxx resort shuttle';. I do not remember which stop it was. Listed under the Harrah%26#39;s stop was shuttle to the Rio. So if what you are clearing up is the fact that the monorail doesn%26#39;t overlook the strip as you%26#39;re riding, then yes I agree. However, it is more than sufficient enough to take to any point along the strip, in my opinion. It worked for me anyway as I split my time between MGM and LV Hilton.

I just looked at the monorail web site and it%26#39;s the Sahara station that has a CAT bus to Fremont street. Since you were asking about the most inexpensive way to get there, my assumption would be that this would be it. Good luck and have a great time!

NovTraveler: didn%26#39;t mean to hit a nerve, just wanted it to be clear that the monorail does not, in fact, go up and down the whole Strip, as your original posting seemed to indicate.

I%26#39;m sure with the clarification, the OP now has the info necessary.

For tinlizzy: Here%26#39;s the website for the monorail, should you wish to use its services, and to get an idea of the parts of the Strip the monorail actually covers: http://www.lvmonorail.com/

As NovTraveler mentions, there is also our bus system (CAT), which is part of our Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) which does have service along the Strip, as well as to the Downtown area. for bus maps and routes, here is there website: http://www.rtcsouthernnevada.com/

    Have a nice vacation.

Didn%26#39;t hit a nerve, I just wondered where one would want to go on the strip that the monorail doesn%26#39;t cover. It took care of all my needs!

    I miss Vegas already...

    …tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g45963-i10-k20295…

Read my 21st B-day TR from June, may give you some ideas. We did the 21st at Margarettaville, to keep the cost reasonable.

It was the best trip ever for all of us

Novtraveler: For the hotels that the monorail does ';serve'; on the Strip, the monorail stations are on the east side of the Strip, behind the hotels. Therefore, if one is staying on the west side of the Strip (i.e., Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, NYNY, Monte Carlo, Caesar%26#39;s Palace, TI, Mirage), then it%26#39;s not really all that convenient to go thru those properties, across the Strip, thru the east-side properties, to the back of the hotel-casinos, to the monorail stations.

Also, should one wish to visit places such as Wynn, Encore, the Fashion Show Mall (altho those are no more inconvenient to get to than, say, Mirage), Circus Circus, Riviera, the Peppermill restaurant, and other ';sights'; on the northern portion of the Strip (except Sahara), then, sorry, the monorail doesn%26#39;t really ';service'; those areas of the Strip .....

While those may not be places that YOU would not wish to see, there are some who do.

So, back to what I have said previously.... the monorail does NOT ';go up and down the Strip';.

  • TI or Luxor?

I have comparable rates between the 2 hotels.

    Which would you pick....

I am running in the LV Marathon on Dec/7 and the start line is at Mandalay Bay...so being at Luxor is close.

But I think I like what I hear of TI and although farther from the start line it seems more appropriately placed on the strip for hopping between hotels.

I have a PYRAMID DELUXE room for $471/3nights at Luxor (marathon deal package)

    and

    TI or Luxor?

I wouldn%26#39;t pay that much in December for either one. You should be able to get a better deal. Check out the promos on smartervegas.com for the hotels you%26#39;re interested in. I%26#39;ll be quite surprised if you can%26#39;t lower that rate.

I%26#39;m also not a huge fan of either of those properties, but between the two, I%26#39;d choose TI. Still, you can get MGM for less than that easily, which would be more convenient in terms of location and overall a nicer property.

    TI or Luxor?

    Really?

$471 is high for 3nights during that week (considering there will be 10,000+ for the marathon weekend).

I%26#39;ve searched all those sites and discount codes and pretty much it is at that range.

    Anyways....hmmmm...MGM you say.

We%26#39;ve stayed at both, and I like TI better (I am not fond of the Luxor after the renovation....I also don%26#39;t like the Sirens show at TI) LOL

TI is nice, because you also have the Mirage right there, and shopping just across the street on the north.

I am not familiar with the marathon...does location on the strip make a difference to you?

What time does the LV Marathon on Dec/7 start?

6am, yup that%26#39;s right, 6 in the morning.

schuey99: I see your point. However, I think you can still do better if you take advantage of one of the ';stay two nights, get one free'; deals such as this one at Monte Carlo:

    https:/…

Even with tax that should save you enough for a meal.

Agree with Strat that there could be some lower options there for you...Sun-Thurs are usually days with lower rates just so you know.

Also agree with Stat but between the 2 i choose TI.

I agree that lower rates can be found, but between the two TI wins hands down for me.

    Good luck on the marathon!!

I%26#39;ve stayed at both as well, and the beds at TI were much better. Is the finish line at the Mandalay Bay as well? It might be worth staying at the Luxor if you are closer to the finish line :-).

Can you rent a highrise condo instead of a hotel room?

Are they allowed to rent out those luxury condos like hotel rooms? I would think the HOA would not allow it but I could be wrong. With the real estate market hurting seems like a tourist could get a good deal rooms that way. Anyone tried such a thing?

Can you rent a highrise condo instead of a hotel room?

The answer to all your questions is yes. Just whether the tourist could get a good deal would depend a lot on what they were looking for however. For some people it simply has to be a hotel.

MGM Rooms Update request for those headed there.

Back in June one of my sources told me the remodel of rooms had started and they were on the 28th floor, headed down.

Could any of you headed for the MGM, please ask the front desk, or bellmen, how far the remodel is, so we can get accurate info to all that need it in the future? The report back here.

Your help will be appreciated by TA members who need this info for their upcoming stays.

    Thank you in advance! =)

MGM Rooms Update request for those headed there.

You know, I%26#39;ve stayed in 3 rooms at MGM and I didn%26#39;t think any of them were in need of ';remodeling';. Why spend money on this at this time?

MGM Rooms Update request for those headed there.

Stratton, I agree with you 100%. I like the look of the MGM rooms. And now that they%26#39;ve upgraded all the beds and bedding, I%26#39;m quite comfortable there. Anyone who has seen my pics of all the different suites, knows that none of the rooms I stayed in looked tired. All were clean and well kept.

I also know they%26#39;ve changed some of their slots, and last year put down new Casino carpet.

The entire West Wing and Skylofts have been remodeled. But there are those that aren%26#39;t happy, unless they know the rooms have been updated. And some have reported wear and tear.

I have to admit it%26#39;s been a while since I%26#39;ve stayed in a Grand Tower room, and those probably get the most traffic.

I%26#39;d just like some more recent help from any TA member to help those people who need a remodeled room.

Even though I agree there%26#39;s no need to remodel the MGM had planned on starting very late this year. But in June, my favorite bellman told me because the MGM expects to be slow the rest of the year, they had started remodeling early. That way they%26#39;d have a jump on Next Year when things might pick up. (This was said in June)

I%26#39;m just tired of saying ';when I was there in June'; I want to provide more updated info is all.

But the MGM thanks you for your support =)

Maybe not remodeling like the Mirage desperately needed, just some overall maintenance....like the seams in the carpet that were seperating and I kept tripping over and the vanitiy mirror that fell off the wall (exposing several huge holes were molly screws showed tell tale signs that prior ';repairs'; were attempted) and the sliding closet door that would not slide.

I just got an e-mail offer with $59 rates on a lot of dates at MGM - for that price, I would bring my own screw driver and duct tape (TSA may inspect my bag, but what the hey...LOL).

lol U2. With what VHM said about MC, maybe they might trade you work for room rates! =)

LOW, I%26#39;ll report back. I%26#39;m staying there, first time during the Mega. I can give you a first visit rundown/opinion. I%26#39;ll even take pics.

    Thanks alot Va!

Pics and an update would be awesome!

Every hotel needs regular maintenance to address those types of things. I have no doubt that most Vegas hotels cut corners on maintenance routinely, which is why you can have a beautiful room right next to one that seems run-down.

However, I find astonshing the attitude among some frequent Vegas visitors that if a hotel%26#39;s rooms haven%26#39;t been completely remodeled within the last 5 years, they are ';worn'; or ';outdated';. I don%26#39;t know of any other city in the world where people would turn their noses up at a nice hotel room just because the rooms were 15 years old.

When I stayed there in Sept 07, carpet in my room was not good and I hated the bathroom, reminded me of an old motel one. Low is right, new beds are very good, though!

It%26#39;s been 8 years since the Grand Tower rooms were remodeled. In Vegas ';time'; that is at least 10 years.

I called MGM Grand 2 months ago and also 5 minutes ago and both times they said No they have not started renovating the Grand Tower rooms and there is no date scheduled for them to start renovating them.

Luxor opened in 1993 and since then they have not renovated those pyramid rooms. I called Luxor and they said they were scheduled TWICE to remodel the pyramid rooms and both times it has been postponed with no scheduled date to start renovating them.

IMO this is why you have seen hotels like Riviera, Circus Circus, IP, Sahara, Tropicana, ect. go from halfway nice hotels to scary places 5-10 years later, and NICE hotels like Monte Carlo, Ballys, Rio ,Luxor, ect. turn into so so hotels 5-10 years later. Las Vegas seems to be having problems keeping their huge hotels in good condition when times are good(economy), and may have a worse time keeping them up when times are bad(economy).

why doesn%26#39;t someone just call the front desk or bellmen? Anyone on any given day can get this much needed info quite simply. No need to wait for someone to go to the MGM and post here.

    LVA Poll Results

The LVA poll results are up for a recent question:

    ';In light of the current economic climate, have you noticed any change in Las Vegas slot machine payouts on recent visits?';

Can casinos ';loosen'; ot ';tighten'; machines to their liking or is this regulated by the NGC?

60% of respondents thought that the slots were tighter. Interesting I think.

    LVA Poll Results

    Anyone know?

    LVA Poll Results

Intersting because a casino can%26#39;t just change the payout at a whim, it%26#39;s costly to do so. So no, the casinos aren%26#39;t making things tighter, its people aren%26#39;t playing as much. Every machine needs so many hits or spinning of the reels x number of times before it pays out a jackpot. If people aren%26#39;t playing as much, it can take longer for the machine to give a good payout. What could happen though is the casino can retire machines and replace with newer ones with a change in payouts. Still though, they are very closely regulated, can%26#39;t just tighten machines willy nilly.

casinos can change the weighting of the RNG quite easily - they do have to fill out some paperwork, it%26#39;s not a big deal and easy to do.

If you%26#39;ve ever walked through a casino and seen machines marked out for service - this could be happening, not necessarily is but does happen.

Although not slot machines recent examples of this are the three machines at The V and few more at The P that used to be 9/6 JOB - .a few months ago they were changed to 8/5 - and then changed back to 9/6 for just a short time a few hours one day - and then back to 8/5. Players on LVA report playing the machines, taking a break, coming back to them being out of service and when back in service a few minutes later the paytable changed.

It%26#39;s easy for the casino management to do, they fill out the paperwork and it takes the tecnicians a few minutes.

Now, are the casinos doing this on a daily basis or more often now? probably not as much as it ';feels'; to the slot players - as you saw on the LVA QOD page.

Can they do it easily? Yes

Are they doing it? Doubtful it is widespread

I think www.wizardofodds.com might address this topic if you want more info may be worth checking.

yep. he did answer some Q%26#39;s. these were a few years ago, process the same, the discussion of ';are they'; may be slightly different now, although most experts think not

How often does a casino change the percentage on a slot machine?

Not often. Contrary to popular myth, the casinos don%26#39;t tighten the machines on weekends or whenever it is busy. Here, in Las Vegas, the casinos have to fill out a form on each game every time they change the percentage. Most slot managers I have spoken with have a policy on what coinage is set to what return. I tend to think the most likely reason to change the percentage would be a change in ownership and/or management, neither of which happens often.

Do casinos have the ability to change the slot payout percent (or really take percentage) at any time after receiving the machine? I always thought that was set at the manufacturer and that the RNG was not changeable. - Jarin Satterlee from San Diego, CA

Physically all you have to do to change the return of the slot machine is change the EPROM chip inside. Assuming the casino manager had all the EPROM chips, which I think they sometimes do, they could make the change themselves. However, in a major jurisdiction the change would have to be reported to the gaming authorities, not to mention internal paperwork. The random number generator is constant, it is what the program does with the random numbers that determines the return.

there is so much accurate info on this available on the web a quick search will serve you well.

In 2006, the Nevada Gaming Commission began working with Las Vegas casinos on technology that would allow the casino%26#39;s slot manager to change the game, the odds, and the payouts remotely. The change cannot be done instantaneously, but only after the selected machine has been idle for at least four minutes. After the change is made, the machine must be locked to new players for four minutes and display an on-screen message informing potential players that a change is being made

bump. People should realize Bridge knows her stuff.

where do you get this info from? Can you back up this with any evidence? You seem to have an opinion on everything Vegas, but that%26#39;s all it is - opinions. Can I suggest that you don%26#39;t bother commenting on something that your%26#39;e clueless about. And to the OP, machines are not ';tightened';. Ever.

BTW, my rant is aimed to gabbybambler %26amp; bridgefan - the president and vice president of all things vegas

It appears BridgeFan is copy-pasting from that web site, it looks like a Q %26amp; A session?

which is better? TI or the Mirage

I%26#39;ve already booked our rooms at the Mirage and the room looks great but TI is a bit cheaper and looks good too. Should I keep my reservation at the Mirage or switch to TI? Thanks!

which is better? TI or the Mirage

There%26#39;s nothing wrong with TI but Mirage%26#39;s rooms were just renovated so I%26#39;d give the room edge to them. I would also give the overall resort edge to Mirage as well due to their restaurants and sportsbook. TI is just next door and connected by a tram so if the cost is significant, there%26#39;s nothing wrong with TI. But, if it%26#39;s only $10-20 a night, I%26#39;d stay with Mirage.

which is better? TI or the Mirage

The Mirage gets my vote...of course the fact that I won at roulette there doesn%26#39;t hurt either :)

Mirage has always been a step up in class from TI. As has been said the newly renovated rooms make it even more appealing. Without knowing the exact difference in rates it%26#39;s not easy to give an informed opinion but if your budget means you%26#39;re happy with what you%26#39;re paying at Mirage then I personally wouldn%26#39;t switch.

If it%26#39;s going to be pool weather and a good pool is important for you then Mirage without any doubt.

MIrage is my favourite hotel on the Strip, great rooms, great service and it still feels like Vegas and not disneyland. the rooms are great and the pool one of the best for me it%26#39;s a different league to TI

  • Rum Jungle Restuarant - Mandalay Bay (Honest opinions)

    Hi trippers,

Coming to the city of sin again and would like to hear honest opinions from people who have dined at the Rum Jungle Restuarant in Mandalay Bay.

We are very keen to try the Rodizio Fire Pit at Rum Jungle for dinner or lunch has anyone been and had a feed???

    jezkim

Rum Jungle Restuarant - Mandalay Bay (Honest opinions)

I%26#39;ve not had rodizio at Rumjungle but if you want Rodizio, I recommend Texas de Brazil located in the new Shopping center between Mandalay Bay and the airport. I%26#39;ll be there on Thursday.

Rumjungle is a nice place, though. Certainly worth a stop in.

Rum Jungle Restuarant - Mandalay Bay (Honest opinions)

I though the food was good. Yolies might have been better food wise. But the place OOOZES atmosphere ( and that doesnt usually appeal to me).

    ';We are very keen to try the Rodizio Fire Pit at Rum Jungle for dinner or lunch has anyone been and had a feed???';

Been to several of these churascurrio (sp?) type places and rumjungle%26#39;s is comparable but it%26#39;s been several years. Their regular menu is very flavorful too. Agree about the atmosphere, great music, lighting, and the fire wall.

I think the lunch menu is scaled down, I know they%26#39;re typically not busy. I%26#39;d call to confirm they have the Fire Pit for lunch - I suspect not.

I%26#39;m aware of the Mystere/Ka/Zumanity discount, but what else is out there?

    special ticket prices for locals?

    cynda,

I just want to make sure that I have this straight. You are a local, shopping for locals. Is that right?

I am just asking because of the rules about picking up tickets in the name of the person using them with your NV identifacation for thaose locals only discounts.

    cynda: From a link at KLAS-TV, http://www.showtickets4locals.com/

    LivingHere,

I belong to that service and the offers come in on your email for that day and you have to act quickly for tickets for that night%26#39;s shows. You get an email when the comps are not offered any more. It%26#39;s a day to day with a rush to get the comps before they close.

It would be hard to gift those IMHO unless the people were there that day and you picked up the tickets and handed them to them.

It%26#39;s just like the seat fillers company.

got a postcard for locals only in the mail for half off blue man group as well as one for phantom of the opera so far.

Oh, postcards. I haven%26#39;t got those yet since we are in right now Iowa and the mail is forwarded.

    Thanks for the heads up.

shrinkgirl: Thanks for the info. Since I live here, then I guess it hits the ';locals'; target pretty well.

It is my understanding that just about every show in town is offering a locals special right now. Most are not advertising. Pick the show you want to see and call the box office direct. La Reve has a special, Blueman, Lance Burton, Jersey Boys, Mystere(you know that).

yes, I%26#39;m a local. Yes, I know you have to prove you%26#39;re a local to get the discount. I just knew there were more offers out there than what I%26#39;d heard of so far, and I like to get show tickets as stocking stuffers for my husband and oldest child. Phantom might be a good choice for this year. We%26#39;ve been to Blue Man several times, as well as the Cirque shows running discounts. I had called about LOVE tickets, because we haven%26#39;t seen that one yet, but she told me the only cirque shows with discounts were Zumanity, Ka, and Mystere. Thanks to all who provided additional tips :)

    Livinghere,

LOL, you sure did hit the target. We usually ';live'; in LV 3-4 months out of the year for the winter months and husband%26#39;s ID is local as he is retired.

We just sold our house and we are buying again so we are only part time locals but we have been for many years. Feeling homeless at the moment.

    cynda,

It%26#39;s not a locals deal but ticketmaster is running a deal on LOVE. Only 25% but it%26#39;s something. Tickets in the stocking is a very sweet Christmas gift.

    bmi updates help

hi there can anyone help.as anyone got any new news on the manchester-las vegas direct flights.with bmi.do u think another airline will take over the bmi flights.or do u think they refund us.

    bmi updates help

I heard that they had just bought a major shareholding in BMI to get the London slots. I hadn%26#39;t heard that any flights had been cancelled.

    bmi updates help

they either have to reprotect you- ie route you through london or somewhere else or give you a full refund

';Changes to bmi operations at Manchester

Following a review of long haul flying out of London Heathrow and Manchester, the following changes are being made:

From January 2009, our Heathrow-Riyadh service becomes six times a week on an A330, with three services continuing onward to Jeddah and three services continuing onward to Dammam

From Spring 2009, our Heathrow-Cairo and Heathrow-Amman services will be upgraded to A330 aircraft bringing our fully-flat bed Business Class and the biggest Premium Economy in the world (at 50” seat pitch) to our Heathrow hub

On 14 January 2009, unfortunately our Manchester-Chicago service will end

In April 2009, unfortunately our Manchester-Caribbean and Manchester-Las Vegas services will end

The decision to withdraw long haul services from Manchester was a very tough one, since we have operated these routes since 2001. However, sadly, the routes have never performed to the revenue levels we hoped to achieve, which combined with 2008 fuel price increases means we still see little prospect of improvement.

    Re-accommodation policy

If you have a booking on discontinued services and you booked direct with our call centre or online, our schedule change team will be in touch with you by the beginning of December, to offer you alternative flights. Re-bookings are being prioritised in date of travel order.

If you booked via a travel agent or a tour operator, they will be in touch with you direct from the middle of next week regarding your rebooking.

    We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.';

We booked through expedia and ensured that each part of the trip was over £100 so that we are covered by the credit card guarantee too. I have emailed expedia and asked if we will be transfered to the direct flight as we are going in February and they are not being cancelled until April.

thanks everyone ,let u know next week when the travelagent might tell me more news, probably going to be a long process, jus want to get it sorted ,

    Hiya,

I sopke to expedia last night, they haven%26#39;t had an update from BMI yet but they did say in the past BMI have offered to route passengers through another airport. I have asked them to move me to the direct flight from Manchester if possible. I%26#39;ll keep in touch!

I%26#39;m also booked with BMI from Manc and contacted Expedia again yesterday but they haven%26#39;t had confirmation from BMI yet. I explained that I%26#39;m only prepared to fly from Manc direct and the lady said they are optimistic they can meet my requirements. If they can%26#39;t I shall just cancel and I will book up for Dubai. Unfortunately I imagine Vegas will lose a lot of regular tourists from the north of England because of this

Ive booked with ebookers to go to vegas in feb but going via chicago. I called them last night and they said as yet they have had no contact from bmi!!! I also called bmi to find out when they would be contacting ebookers and they were no help either!

Has everyone been sorted now? I was transfered onto the Direct flight and I am soo excited cos we get to Vegas 8 hours earlier now!

    Mirage Volcano Open yet?

Just got back and the volcano is still under construction. I did not inquire about the re-opening of the volcano.

I just received an E-mail from the Mirage saying the New Volcano will re-open on Dec. 8th. I think it is odd they would do it on a Monday. I will be there on Dec 4 - 6 so maybe they will do some test runs and I will be able to catch it.

Recommended spa on the strip or just off

Leaving Monday and would like a GREAT spa experience. Any advice on which spa for your dollar on or close to the middle of the Strip. Am staying for a week so I still need to watch SHOP too. Anything with a deep massage and extra will be great. Thanks again for all of your input it has been very helpful.

Recommended spa on the strip or just off

Loved the spa at Caesar%26#39;s and the Mirage

Recommended spa on the strip or just off

Not near the middle of the strip, but my wife really likes the MGM Grand Spa

I find that you get what you pay for with Vegas spas. It%26#39;s worth paying a little extra for the more top-end places simply because of the great overall experience you%26#39;ll get. Qua at Caesars and Canyon Ranch at Venetian are two of my favorites.

I also love Bathhouse at THEhotel but I think it%26#39;s restricted to guests only.

    Decision Time%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

    A good massage, etc $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    or

    Shopping. $$$$$

Thanks everyone I just didn%26#39;t know if you do ';get what you pay for in Vegas';. I definitely will spend the money on a good treatment.(and find the money to shop'; especially with your Thanksgiving deals that everyone talks about.

    6600, where are you staying?

Canyon Ranch is wonderful. My favorite anyplace I go is a hot stone massage, heavenly to me. However, no matter where you go, it%26#39;s the masseuse that makes the treatment special, they have to have %26#39;the%26#39; touch. Qua Spa at Caesar%26#39;s also gets rave reviews but I%26#39;ve not been there. I can also recommend the spa at Bellagio. I believe non guests can book appts there but not on the weekends.

We are staying at the Imperial Palace, we have so much fun with the dealertainers. I think I will wait until I get down there tomorrow and book then

  • Mama Mia Seats

Anybody have a suggestion for good seats?

    Mama Mia Seats

    Hi Luggage,

The first time we saw Mamma Mia we sat in section C, about 5 rows back. Some of the solo scenes do take place on the right side of the stage, and we could see everything perfectly from that view point. IF only C and A were available, I would chose C, but try for B (center) of course.

The second time we bought tickets early and scored Row BB - First Row (I think there are 2 rows in front of the Orchestra - The Orchestra is not at eye level, but dropped down). Amazing! This is a production where being up close is a fantastic advantage as you can see every fine detail of the costumes, and clearly see the expressions of the cast.

I would imagine most seats in Section A, B, or C would be good. You dont want to sit too far back, get seats as close in as possible if you can. Purchase early!

We are seeing Mamma Mia one last time (3rd) on December 10, again directly behind the Orchestra in center seats - BB - 1st row. It was kind of fun to say hello to the Orchestra too. :)

As You probably know their last performance is Jan 4, 2009 and Lion King will take over that spot around April, I think.

I will miss Mamma Mia for sure!

Been awhile...excite me about Vegas again.

I haven%26#39;t posted since shortly after my trip in August. To be honest, we were a little Vegas%26#39;d out by them end of the trip. I think our tastes have gotten a little more expensive, we couldn%26#39;t do everything we wanted because of it and we weren%26#39;t thrilled with staying at the south end, besides the pool at MGM. We decided to skip Vegas altogether next year and go to Myrtle Beach with the kids instead.

Now I%26#39;m sort of reconsidering. We are definately taking the kids ot the beach, but I might want to sneak in a side trip with the husband too.

So tell me all your exciting tales. Get rid of my Blah attitude about Vegas. Convince me to get back on that plane one more time! LOL!

Been awhile...excite me about Vegas again.

How about just taking a short trip to Foxwoods to see if that gets you back into the mood?

Been awhile...excite me about Vegas again.

Prices in Vegas keep going down, if you plan another trip, most likely you%26#39;ll find cheaper rates and might be able to book a nicer hotel than before!

You%26#39;re talking about 2 different trips (family vs. parent getaway).

How long did you stay last time and what time of year was it?

We really like staying mid Strip (Paris, Mirage, PH, Bellagio, etc.)

We love going in the winter (January). Crowds are low, rooms are cheap, and you can usually get 1/2 price show tickets.

We find 3-4 nights are just right. I always like leaving with the feeling of we didn%26#39;t get to do everything we wanted.

LOL...thanks all. I%26#39;m just being difficult and ugly because its about 19 degrees with a windchill here!

A little background...I%26#39;ve been to Vegas 5-6 times. I%26#39;ve lost count. We always go in the summer because that%26#39;s when the kiddos go to camp and I don%26#39;t need a sitter. We love TI. We stayed at MGM last time and I absolutely loved the pool area, but I really don;t like that end of the strip. We%26#39;ll probably go back to TI or Mirage next time. I%26#39;m just more comfy up in that area. My last trip had a lot of big ticket items. next trip probably won%26#39;t.

Maybe it was all the construction last trip. Vegas lost it%26#39;s sparkle somehow. We also took the momorail a lot as it was convenient to the MGM so we saw the backs of the properties instead of the fronts like we normally do.

I%26#39;m sure I%26#39;ll get the bug again soon! I%26#39;ll just keep on reading the forum and I%26#39;ll be booking before you know it! Just need good airfare! LOL!

Stay at the Wynn and drink LIIT%26#39;s until you swear you can see white tigers in the casino.

Great thing about drinking in Vegas? You don%26#39;t have to drive anywhere afterwards, so no worries. But don%26#39;t try to pet the kitties. Those are just friendly cocktails waitresses trying to spoil you with service. =)

(Dunno about you but I wanna go there NOW, LMAO)

Do a romantic trip with just you and the hubby. Stay a couple nights in a suite at the Palazzo. Sleep in. Do the spa thing. Go eat at a romantic restauraunt. See a show. Go shopping at Black Satin @ the Wynn. Get a nice bottle of wine brought up to the room. And...well...the rest is history!

Oh yeah - find some time for gambling in between!

    Seriously.

I never never have to ask someone to get me excited about Vegas.

Steph, There are plenty of places that are the same in Vegas.

You should strive to hit the places taht are less advertised.

Go Downton, Hit the Western , The Atomic. Go the the Plaza and have cocktails.

Go the the Riviera and make a show of it.

These places ARE Las Vegas so dont underestimate them.

Just because a place doesnt have the latest and greatest of everything doesnt mean you should discount it.

They are in business for a reason, all of them.

You can also save some money and cleanse your soul at the same time.

Hey Steph - I know exactly what you mean. My husband and I go to Vegas every year. We were there in September and I think because we tend to overdue everything when we%26#39;re there, we leave feeling a little Vegas%26#39;d out.

So here%26#39;s a few suggestions on what I would do to sort of get the Vegas battery going:

    - Watch a couple of Vegas movies. Vegas Vacation with Chevy Chase is a good comedy with great Vegas scenes or how about Ocean%26#39;s Eleven with George Clooney and Brad Pitt (the fountain scenes at Bellagio will bring back some memories)

    - Check out a few of the hotel websites

    - Keep reading the posts on this website!

Family vacations are great for reconnecting with your family but always remember you and hubby need time away too. What I love about our Vegas vacations are my husband and I can just have fun - no interuptions from feuding kids, no work problems and my personal favorites NO HOUSEWORK, NO LAUNDRY AND NO MEALS TO PREPARE!!!!

do something new, there is always something new to do in Vegas.

I still have not been to Hard Rock or Green Valley Ranch.

Plan a trip around things you have not seen or done.

    TRY

    Off strip casinos

    Eat at new places

    Go to new shows

Do a relaxing Vegas with spa treatment, pool and just relax.

Stay somewhere new. I stayed at MGM for 11 times at least before I finally ventured to a different hotel. It is so much fun staying somewhere different.

In fact my last trip I stayed 9 days at 3 hotels. MGM, Mirage and Bally%26#39;s.

  • Payless Car Rental...Opinions?

    Hello!

We usually rent from Dollar- but this trip requires a 6 passenger vehicle- so apparantly we will have to get a minivan :( Dollar is considerably higher than the others- Payless being the lowest total price (Enterprise is not far off though).

Anyone used Payless in Las Vegas- a couple reviews I saw were iffy.....

    Help!

    Payless Car Rental...Opinions?

IMOP i think Payless sucks, havent used them in Vegas as i am a National Rental fan, payless loves to change their rates on you ,some people may not have a problem with them, different folks for different strokes.

    Payless Car Rental...Opinions?

Thanks! Thats why I thought I better ask here! I certainly don%26#39;t want to pay nay more than I have to- but if I choose them to save $40 or $50 and then its a nightmare I%26#39;ll really kick myself!..

Enterprise?? Any opinions on them? Anyone??

Just rented from Payles from Nove 3-7. Had a compact car for 71 including all taxes. NOT A SINGLE PROBLEM.

Be careful with them...I have seen several posts on this forum about nightmare rentals. I remember one story about someone who dropped the car off and received a bill for damage after the fact. Ever since I saw that I won%26#39;t even check their rates.

One thing I have done is rent from the strip and not the airport. You save tons from the taxes they charge you at the airport. I have used Budget on West Tropicana and Dollar in the Bellagio. This doesn%26#39;t always come in lower as I have rented from Hertz at the airport and have received great deals but it%26#39;s worth checking into.

Rented from Enterprise 2 years ago. They put a 300.00 hold on the credit card for a 125 charge.

They do not have a ';speedy kiosik'; but do have an express line. So you need to wait on line before going downstairs to get your car.

I%26#39;ve rented from Enterprise several times near home, but always for ';unusual circumstances'; - car being repaired, need to drive home from a cancelled flight, etc. They were fine. Never rented them just from an airport for a vacation, however. Only annoying thing when I%26#39;ve rented under the unusual circumstances has been that the gas tank is not full - could be anywhere - quarter, half, 3/4%26#39;s, etc., and it was up to you to return it at the SAME level - kinda tricky sometimes. Again, not at an airport location.

I love Payless and probably have used them 7 or 8 times in the last couple of years without a hitch. They do not change rates on you. Too much heresay on some of these opinions. They have the cheapest rates anywhere.

I have used payless for the last 6 years and love them. Never hae had any problems. I always rent an Economy car and they always have bigger cars you can chose from. They are also by far the cheapest in Vegas.

    Hi,

I have used Payless rental for my last trip to LV...the physical condition of the vehicle is not good...there are lot of scraches, spots %26amp; dents all around the vehicle. That really made me panicky...I asked the lady who gave the keys...she simply said ';find out all those and mark it on a paper having vehicle drawing...give a copy to me and take one with you to return it later';. It was dark at that time and I was so tired to check each and every part of interier and exterier...I tried to note all but missed one, then again went back to add it...so, by the time I took the vehicle out, I was not in a good mood %26amp; kicking myself for choosing this cheap option.

When I returned the vehicle, I asked him for any issues with it...he said ';You mentioned it all on the paper, so you are fine';...what if I miss one?

I would not recommend this %26amp; please stay away from this option...thanks.

    Front of Line Niteclub tickets

We%26#39;ll be in Vegas last week of January %26#39;09 and were wondering if anyone could adivse what queues are like for Rok Vegas or Christian Audigier at TI are like mid week. Would we be better to buy front of line passes and do these really work or do they just get you past the no hoper queue and into another equally long one. Thanks

    Front of Line Niteclub tickets

Fronty of line passes do not work, the best wy to avoid lines is to buy bottle service

Best places to stay near Reno Sparks Livestock Center

Hi my family is planning a trip to Reno for an event at the Livestock Center in May. What are some good places to stay within walking distance? Need a clean, decent hotel/motel with a pool. Also need a safe area because we would like to walk to the Livestock Center with 6 year old. Thanks!

Best places to stay near Reno Sparks Livestock Center

The Reno Livestock Event Center is off N. Wells, about a half mile north of 80. In May you might be able to walk it, but a cab may be worthwhile. The closest hotels are a Motel 6, Circus Circus, El Dorado, Harrah%26#39;s and the Silver Legacy. With a 6 year old, I%26#39;d recommend Circus Circus. Depending on what event you%26#39;ll be in town for, there may be shuttles from the downtown hotels to the Event Center.

Best places to stay near Reno Sparks Livestock Center

I should add, depending on what part of May, a pool may not be useful yet, we%26#39;ve been known to have snow until the middle of the month.

I second nmparmelee...Circus Circus may be your best bet (no pun intended). The Reno Livestock Events Center is not in the greatest area of town, so the closest motels are, invariably, not the greatest either (Motel 6 or Holiday Inn-you%26#39;ll see from the hotel reviews for Reno that both of those score quite low). If you guys are walkers you%26#39;ll be OK walking from Circus Circus, but a taxi might be a better option with a 6 year old if he/she is a whiner like mine ;)!

I would definitely not recommend staying in the area of the Livestock Events Center. Pick a place downtown and just cab it. As for the previous recommendations for Circus Circus, I think it is cheesy and cheap . . . but for a 6 year old, might be perfect!

Has the area deteriorated that much? For years, I%26#39;ve been using either the Motel 6 or the Econolodge (which I remember from when it was originally a Motel 6). I%26#39;m female and have never considered the area especially bad, although I typically stay while in transit and I%26#39;m not that interested in the amenities of the neighborhood. The area that seems less savory to me is not around the Livestock Center, but between I-80 and about 4th Street.

Has the area deteriorated? No, it%26#39;s still the same as always, but not exactly the location you%26#39;d recommend for a family with young kids, especially if they%26#39;ll be walking to restaurants and other sights.

  • Rio room question

Will be going to LV for our second visit in March, when leaving after first visit in february I just knew that was the first of many to come!! So, will be going for 9-10 nights in March 09.

First time was at the Venetian and Paris. Would like to try Rio for 3 nights or so..can see i can get a ';deluxe'; room for $ 50/night or a ';Premium'; for $ 80/night. Does anyone know the difference between those two, is it just the wiew? Premium being with strip wiew as fas as i can figure out and is that worth the extra 30/night?

Maybe we will stay at Paris again for some nights and also hope that some nice deals for Venetian/Palazzo/Wynn/Bellagio pops up as we get closer. Love those places but theres also a big difference between $50 and $250 a night. Should Palazzo come up with a 150$/night deal I will not think twice and have 3 nights there. Well, we see what happens later on, nomatter what Im so sure it will be a great trip...miss Vegas every single day!

    Rio room question

The only difference is the view. As Rio is a mile from the Strip I personally wouldn%26#39;t entertain paying extra for the ';view';, but I guess a lot comes down to what you personally want.

$50 is a great rate for Rio. I think I paid that when I had a few days there earlier this year. It%26#39;s a nice hotel and I enjoyed my stay there.

    Rio room question

Thx Blagger, since the only difference is the view I%26#39;ll save the 30$ for the slot machines

The strip view isn%26#39;t worth the extra money to me. People have different opinions of what%26#39;s a good strip view, in my opinion it%26#39;s one of the best. They have floor to ceiling windows and you get a panoramic view, with the proper room, of the whole strip - Stratosphere to Mandalay Bay or close to it.

So how do I know so much about the strip view at the Rio? While I%26#39;ve stayed there probably a dozen times I%26#39;ve never paid the extra for the strip view, premium room. But on several trips I%26#39;ve got the view. I know in the summer I generally ask for a room with a pool view and that just happens to often be the strip view. Most times I%26#39;ve been accomodated.

Other times didn%26#39;t even ask and got a strip view room. All things being equal I%26#39;m sure a lot of folks are like us, they book the mountain view, so they have to shift some folks from mountain to strip view.

$50/night gives a feel for the expected occupancy. The fact you%26#39;re from Denmark, only 2nd time to Vegas should be in your favor. I%26#39;d just ask nicely at checkin and as long as you%26#39;re not checking in at midnight you should have a good chance at getting the strip view.

Good luck and enjoy the Rio!

Have booked the 50$ room and will ask very nicely at checkin. Also got the Venetian at 119$/night..couldnt resist. To me thats a good deal in March, due to the finacial crise it seem rates are really going down

Allegiant from Shreveport - $58 RT!!

Too bad I can%26#39;t take advantage of this! Allegiant is posting departure on Sunday, Dec. 14 and return on Dec. 18 for $29 each way. Great deal - oh my gosh!

That is the week we get out of school, so there is no way we can do this. Drats! Maybe someone out there can catch this deal while its on! Good luck.

    Mrs. G

Allegiant from Shreveport - $58 RT!!

Wow!! That%26#39;s a great deal. I teach school also and that%26#39;s our last week before getting out for the holidays also. We are about 45 minutes to an hour out of DFW or we could spend 2 and half hours going down 20 to Shreveport to catch a flight. For those prices, I would drive it. Hope they have some pricing this summer like that.

Allegiant from Shreveport - $58 RT!!

I just keep thinking, %26#39;When I retire....%26#39;, which is in a year and a half. I%26#39;ll be able to go on a whim anytime a great deal comes up.

    sigh....

    Mrs. G

I%26#39;m patiently waiting for the $29 deal for January. I%26#39;ve been watching these fares and usually the month before they will come down on a few flights. We are flexible on dates so we plan to go sometime in January.

THanks for the tip! That%26#39;s amazing.

mrsg did you notice they are flying 4 flights weekly in April instead of 2?

mgm grand tower or mirage strip view

i can get those rooms for the same price.

    which would you prefer??

mgm grand tower or mirage strip view

I think a lot depends on where you like to be on the strip. Based on rooms alone, I would take the Mirage as their rooms have just been renovated. However, based on location, I would have taken Mirage anyways. There%26#39;s no sense taking MGM if you know all of your activities will be on the northern tip of the strip.

mgm grand tower or mirage strip view

The Mirage is much more conveniently located on the strip, everything is so much closer to it than to the MGM, that alone would make me choose it over MGM.

Mirage isn%26#39;t quite as large and overwhelming as the MGM is either, it%26#39;s a lovely property.

I prefer MGM, but the good thing is I think you will be happy staying either place.

    MGM

Very large property with around 5,000 rooms. Great service and tons of restaurants and things to see and do within the property. The Grand Tower has the best beds and linen.

MGM is located near NY NY, Excalibur, Luxor, Monte Carlo and Mandalay Bay with access via walkways and a free tram.

MGM has a monorail stop so easy access down strip.

MGM pool complex is nice and larger than Mirage%26#39;s pool.

    Mirage

Mid strip location which many people prefer.

    Renovated rooms

Nice Pool but chairs are too close together

Nice Restaurants, free tram over to Treasure Island

Smaller property than MGM easy to navigate.

Mirage also might be fun because they opening the new volcano show in December. So it might be cool if you can get a room with a view of the volcano.

I%26#39;d book it depending on what you have planned.

    I really like both hotels.

In June I had a M%26amp;G at Planet Hollywood, so I was at MGM. Then I saw Bette at Caesars, so I stayed at Mirage next door.

  • Driving from South Lake Tahoe to Virginia City

    Hi

Can you drive from South Lake Tahoe to Virginia City and Reno during the winter months for a day trip, or does snow typically close the roads? Also, is this a ';doable'; day trip?

    Thanks in advance.

Driving from South Lake Tahoe to Virginia City

    Hi!

Sorry for the delay...this forum doesn%26#39;t get much action!

Yes, it is very doable as a day trip. South Lake Tahoe to Reno is approximately 90 minutes or less; SLT to Virginia City would be around 60-80 minutes.

As far as driving during the winter months, it really depends on if there has been recent snowfall. Our roads tend to get plowed pretty well, but if a heavy storm hits driving is typically not advisable.

Driving from South Lake Tahoe to Virginia City

I can also attest to the fact that it%26#39;s a very doable drive from Lake Tahoe.

My husband and I were just there this past Oct. We were staying in South Tahoe and drove through Carson City, then on to Virginia City. Very easy drive and took about an hour and 20 minutes.

It was snowing the day we left Virginia City, and we too were concerned about driving in it (we%26#39;re from Florida)we didn%26#39;t have any experience in that area!

We were told by the locals that the roads are kept up very well in the winter and that unless it%26#39;s a very heavy snow, not to worry. Since we were so very %26#39;green%26#39; however, we did leave before it started to snow harder. Better safe than sorry, as we had no tire chains either.

    Golden Nugget - VIP Lounge

Does anyone have nfo on the Golden Gunnet%26#39;s VIP lounge. Website indicated:

    ';Give yourself the VIP treatment! For just $15, you can have access to our lavish and intimate VIP Lounge';

I have call reservations to gather info on this several times and have not been able to get through to anyone with knowledge.

Any TA friends know what it includes, free drinks, snacks, etc. is it like a concierge level?

    Is it worth the $15?

    Thanks

    Golden Nugget - VIP Lounge

To answer that question, let me ask you a question:

If you were staying at the Golden Nugget, and you didn%26#39;t know there was such a thing as a VIP Lounge there, do you think you would feel there was something missing form your experience?

Marketing is the art of convincing people that they need/want things they have never needed/wanted before. Most likely what you get for the $15 bucks is the ability to make your travel companions think you%26#39;re a big shot because you have access to something that is restricted.

    Golden Nugget - VIP Lounge

    Stratton says

    ';Most likely what you get for the $15 bucks is the ability to make your travel companions think you%26#39;re a big shot because you have access to something that is restricted.';

That alone sounds like it is worth $15 to me.

    Stratton,

I don%26#39;t need the soapbox speech! It was a simple question. If you don%26#39;t have an answer to the question why waste time and effort.

If you must know - my family always stays at MGM properties on the strip but I taked them into doing the Nugget for one evening on this coming trip and thought it might be worth giving them a ';VIP Lounge'; treatment to possibly equal some of the fine experiences we have at high end Strip Props.

Any legitimate response or answer would be appreciated.

weljef, I answered your question, and I did so politely and in a way that I thought would help you to make up your own mind. I also shared my own opinion. I%26#39;m sorry if you didn%26#39;t find it helpful. I%26#39;m not sure why that ruffled your feathers, but do yourself a favor and lighten up.

I will be staying at the GN this weekend, and would love to see a legit answer myself.

Sorry Stratton, I thought you were being sarcastic. No Offense!

I really just want to know what you get for your $15.

I have personally called the hotel on 2 separate occasions and after holding I could not get a legit answer. Leasding me to believe it may be a new thing at the Hotel since the Landry%26#39;s buyout.

Your reply only continued my frustration of no solid answer of what the VIP lounge includes.

    weljef

Understood - it probably is new and the staff probably have no idea. I certainly agree that I%26#39;d want more details before spending my money on something like that. Of course, looking at it another way, it%26#39;s the cost of one hand of blackjack :)

Was this presented to you as an add on to your room rate or something to do with the casino? (Maybe you don%26#39;t know the answer to that.) when we stayed in the Nugget last fall sometime, they were working on their ';High Limit'; gaming area, which is in an alcove you pass going from North Tower Lobby into the casino area. I%26#39;m not sure , but I think I saw a door inside it that said VIP on the glass. So, I%26#39;m wondering if somehow they have a special lounge on the gaming floor that offers special services, like perhaps a bar and %26#39;or snacks , rest rooms etc for people who pay for the priviledge- like a Captain%26#39;s Club at an airport? I realize that a lot of hotels have a special area for their high rollers ( those comped by invitation ) to check in that is away from us peons, but I thought I saw that in North Tower Lobby.

Really, I have no idea, I%26#39;m just speculating- but do post the answer when you return. I would never aspire to a VIP area at any cost as I%26#39;m an El Cortez gaming and Binions Beans kind of gal- but it would be nice to know as we always stay at the Nugget- if there is food involved, might be worth it!

I was curious too since I%26#39;m trying to give downton a chance for the first time. Here%26#39;s the most I found: ';A new VIP lounge offers personalized services and a private check-in area for frequent guests whereas a new ultra-lounge allows guests to relax in an upscale atmosphere.'; Doesn%26#39;t sound like free drinks or food.

Thanks, that sounds more like a courtesy room at the airport (courtesy services, internet, casino hosts etc.) and not a VIP lounge.

I%26#39;ll follow up if I get any more details.

    Thanks

  • Nice rates now at 7.77

Well, I wish I could arrange to go right now.

The poker tables and personnel were great.

I can afford to play when I pay these kinds of rates:

Two people can stay for only $7.77 per night (Sunday-Thursday through Dec. 18.) at The Edgewater Hotel %26amp; Casino in Laughlin, Nevada. Friday and Saturday are only $20 more per night.

Located 90 miles south of Las Vegas on the banks of the Colorado River in Laughlin, The Edgewater Hotel %26amp; Casino just completed a multimillion-dollar renovation on its casino.

    Blackout Dates: Nov. 27-29

For more information and to book call The Edgewater directly at 877-647-1714 and mention BTZOO6.

    Nice rates now at 7.77

I%26#39;d rec. spending an additonal $15 or so per night and staying at a NICE hotel like Golden Nugget or Trop.

GN or Trop at $25/night is a better VALUE than FREE at Riverside, Edgewater, Pioneer or Colorado Belle unless some major remodeling has taken place recently at those hotel/casinos.

1st time nx wk - where to start

Hi we are travelling for my husbands birthday. Staying in Excalibur. Don%26#39;t know where to start though. Is there a good place to begin and work from there or should we just ramble up and down and see what enfolds. Did a bit of research but hard to plan when you havn%26#39;t been before. Is the shopping good also.

Any advice would be really appreciated. Tks.

1st time nx wk - where to start

If shopping is what you%26#39;re interested in I say head toward Planet Hollywood, Bellagio, Caesars, Venetian then Fashion Show Mall. With the exception of PH all of those hotels are a site in themselves. The fact they have great shops is a bonus. Have fun!

1st time nx wk - where to start

Exploring the different hotels at your own pace is always a good idea. Splitting the Strip into sections and devoting a day to each tends to work well. Whatever you do pack comfortable shows. You%26#39;ll be doing a lot of walking! The ';Things to Do'; link over on the left of the page is worth checking out.

Lots of great shopping to be found. On the Strip you have Fashion Show Mall and more upscale shopping at Forum Shops (Caesars) and Grand Canal Shoppes (Venetian). These two are tourist destinations in their own right. If you%26#39;re looking for bargains head to either of the outlet malls.

    Touring Hotels

Take the walkway from Excalibur to NY NY to check out hotel, then take walkway from NY NY over to MGM.

(Note) one of the best views of the strip at night is the view standing on the walkway between NY NY and MGM.

MGM has a monorail stop so jump on and head down the strip. You can also take the Deuce (double Decker Bus) that goes up and down the strip.

or take walkway over to MGM and walk down the strip. That side of the street has move stuff to see, the other side you will be walking past the construction site of City Center (boring)

If you take the monorail get off at the Bally%26#39;s/Paris stop. This will put you mid strip across from the Bellagio Fountains and a lot of fun hotels to tour.

If you visit Mirage Hotel, take the free tram to Treasure Island (located to right of hotel entrance). Take walkway from TI over to Fashion show mall, than walkway over The Wynn, then Walkway to the Palazzo.

    Hi Sue,

We leave next Tuesday and we have very few things planned. We have planned a few dinners but I think the most fun vacation is seeing where the day takes you. We plan on exploring each hotel and see what we want to do when we are there. I am always nervous to plan my vacations down to the minute because I never want to get dissapointed that we missed something that I planned.

Regardless of what you do enjoy your trip!

Walking around on the strip is a good thing for a first visit. I would make sure to see the Bellagio fountains. The forum shops at Caesers are a site to see.

Here is a list of attractions.

    http://www.vegas.com/attractions/.

Plan your ';must sees,'; shows, and some restaurants you want to try. Then play it by ear. Don%26#39;t try to see everything in one trip- it can%26#39;t be done. Follow blagger%26#39;s plan.

To me the must sees would be:

Bellagio conservatory and fountains (at night)

Forum Shops at Caesars Palace- both a mall and an attraction.

    Eiffel Tower at Paris

The ceilings and canals at the Venetian.

The best general shopping mall: Fashion Show Mall- near TI. The best shopping outlet: Premium Outlets.

But there are many malls to choose from:

    lasvegasadvisor.com/…

Thanks a million everyone for the replies. I%26#39;m gonna print them all out and take them with me. Can%26#39;t wait now!!

You could visit Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, NYNY, and MGM all in one afternoon- and maybe the Mansions if you can the entry to it; but I think you need a key to enter- but if you can it is very nice!

Also, on the south end of the strip is Showcase mall which has a big M%26amp;M%26#39;s World and the World of Coco Cola which I think is interesting.

You could also spend another afternoon looking at the Wynn (and maybe snap photos of Encore), Trump, Mirage, Ti, Venetian, and Palazzo. And also visit the Fashion show mall which is right in that area.

You can also use the Monorail at the MGM to go to places across the strip. There are some passes so you might want to look at that.

Also do visit a buffet as so many hotels have buffets. I would recommend Wynn or Bellagio for the best quality or for a better price the Mirage and Harrahs buffet are pretty good. Some people say the Mandalay Bay Buffet is also good.

And visit attractions too like the Ethel M Chocolate Factory (but you need to drive to that), the Bellagio Fountains, etc.

It%26#39;s all about how much time you spend at a hotel. I would go slow and spend the time savoring at the details put into the hotel...or if you don%26#39;t like the hotel go visit the next hotel ASAP.
