canadian dollar

I heard that the canadian dollar is being exchanged at Par while in some Casino%26#39;s...any truth to this???

canadian dollar

Not likely.

I have yet to find anywhere in the US that will accept Canadian money at all.

Have even had several places refuse Canadian coins !

I%26#39;m thinking the casinos aren%26#39;t really in the business of losing almost $.25 on the dollar.

We live on the BC border, and my husband is Canadian, with all of his family up there. Have had to deal with Canadian money forever. Every place here to Seattle takes Canadian money, if it is paper, no one takes coins i believe. Not sure if this includes the loonies and toonies though.

I would doubt the Casinos give Par. I have no idea if they take the Canadian in the casinos, but it is money, so they probably exchange it.

They do exchange Canadian money at the casino cashiers. It%26#39;s not at par, but the rate is very similar to banks at home. No coins.

Being Canadian I travel with Hong Kong dollars.

A few months back the Canadian dollar was at par with the American dollar but no more. The US dollar is back above the Canadian dollar by 15%-20%. Your best bet is to exchange your money at your local bank before you leave. Very rarely will anyone exchange for a better rate than the bank.

I transferred to Toronto, from So. Cal., 14 months ago when the US dollar was getting hammered. Those were trying times, but now all is good :) 1.235 today :)

I would exchange your money before you leave. The exchange rates at the casinos leave much to be desired.

When we travelled to the Mayan in July for our honeymoon, our dollar (Canadian) was slightly higher than the American dollar so we jumped on it and purchased some ';extra'; American money while it was at such a great rate...

And considering we%26#39;re going to Vegas this January, I think we made a great decision...still hoping ours comes back up though! :)

When we went last month we exchanged in some here and needed to do more there and found that Imperial Palace had the best rate out of Harrahs and Flamingo, you would think they would all be the same but they weren%26#39;t.

I find using my debit card from Canada gets me the best rates available from exchange. Of course you will have to pay the ATM fee but at least you are not carrying all that cash around.
