Changing hotels, renting cars and non-casino activity

We are coming to LV in January for our friends 20th Anniv celebration. Luxor for Fri and Sat night. We are not big gamblers, we do love to party and dine, but are interested in the region. Valley of Fire and Ski Las Vegas (hey look we are southerners and even made snow is snow :), and that kind if stuff) So we are considering going to the airport and renting a car Sunday when our friends fly out. Also changing hotels? But Luxor rates drop to 69.00 ish for Sun and Mon. I was thinking a smaller hotel would be more convienent for car-trips, packing lunches for hikes, mini-frig, free breakfast etc But I see rates about 120.00 for Hampton/Embassy style hotels.

Any input??

The rates at Las Vegas hotel/casinos are so low right now I can%26#39;t imagine that Embassy style can adequately compete.

But if you want another option for a smaller easier to navigate more economical venue, I would suggest checking local off-strip hotels. I would recommend Gold Coast, South Point or maybe Sam%26#39;s Town. You should be able to get any of these for $25-$50 per night.

South Point is a very nice property. It has a bowling alley and movie theater and their buffet is cheap and tasty.

I personally would stick with Luxor, especially with it being cheaper. Ask for a fridge if you are a player club member (they usually won%26#39;t charge).

I would suggest looking into Silverton, South Point or Sams Town. You should be able to find some great rates and they are all off the main strip. You could find out if they will provide a mini-fridge in the room on their website or by calling.

While breakfast would not be free these places all have cheaper buffets or coffee shops where you could get breakfast.

Silverton is a very cool property and has a Bass Pro attached to it, if that is something you are interested in seeing.
