I never write trip reports because I%26#39;m so darn dull, but just wanted to write down a few things about a quick one night stand at the Palazzo on Friday Aug. 15th. My husband was in LV on business and I flew in from the OC to meet him.
My Southwest Airlines flight was quick and easy, best experience of all airlines I%26#39;ve had flying into Vegas. They really seem to have their act together, a lot more than USAir.
Wow! Vegas was hot! I waited for about 20 minutes in line for the taxi, and the heat just took it out of me. Must%26#39;ve been 110 degrees outside!
Checking into the Palazzo was easy and quick. My room looked very much like the Venetian rooms we%26#39;ve stayed in before but with a nice style update. Loved the remote control shades. I%26#39;d read about them, but didn%26#39;t realize they%26#39;d be so impressive!
After checking out the room I headed straight to the Concierge Lounge. Just a huge beautiful room. A big, big step up from the concierge level at the Venezia which tended to be too crowded, not enough seats for everyone. After ordering myself a cosmo, I found a nice window table overlooking Treasure Island, and sat back to unwind with some nuts and h%26#39;ordeovres. If you like to relax in Vegas, and enjoy a cocktail or two, I have to say the concierge level is just so enjoyable and civilized. The alcohol was premium quality, the service was impeccable, and it%26#39;s just such a nice refuge from all the crowdedness. Since I was so hot and tired, it was just what the Dr. ordered. After my husband joined me a little while later, we each had another drink (strong!) and went back to our room.
We had had reservations at Daniel Buloud at the Wynn for dinner, but at the recommendation of another poster here we changed our plans and stayed within the building and went out to eat at David Burke. Thanks to JackandSally, we had an amazing meal at David Burke! Took advantage of their summer special meal, a 3 course meal at $49per person, and it was tremendous. For an appetizer I had a (huge) bowl of mussels in a spicy tomato sauce that was delicious, and my husband had the sweet lobster corn soup. For entrees, my husband had the beef short rib with lobster risotto, I had a roasted chicken with bacon mashed potatoes that was tremendous. For dessert, a vietnamese coffee sundae is something I%26#39;ll remember for a long time! YUM. And our wines by the glass were excellent, too. All around for food and service we had a fantastic meal!
Afterwards we gambled a little on the slots...nothing, nada, so we walked over to Wynn and had a nightcap at Parasol Up, a great people watching spot. Love the Wynn.
The next morning we slept in late because of those great room darkening shades and all that food and drink from the night before. Got up and went to the lounge and asked the concierge for a late check out, which they did very graciously, 1pm (usual checkout 11 am -- too early), and we had a nice leisurely coffee and breakfast. My husband had to pull me away from the lounge, coulda sat there all day drinking good coffee and looking out the window!
Before we left to go home, we walked back to the Venetian and had lunch at Enoteca San Marco, Mario Batali%26#39;s casusal place on St. Marks. Square. Had a really nice light lunch of salad, cheeses and cold cuts. Felt very Italian. Good food and service, made for a wonderful light lunch!
In closing I liked the Palazzo, but it felt so crowded, and the elevators were slow. I%26#39;d stay again, though, especially if I could stay on the Concierge level. Otherwise, the jr. suite at the Signature%26#39;s still my favorite room of the last year or two.
Thanks to all the posters here for the great recs. I really used them, and even if we only stayed one night, sure had a great time!
One night stand at the Palazzo -- Concierge, David BurkeWow, sounds like a great weekend adventure. You%26#39;re so lucky to be so close. Thanks for the report on David Burke, sounds like I need to do a little more homework on dinner locales for our trip next month.
One night stand at the Palazzo -- Concierge, David BurkeAwesome I got nervous when I saw the title...if you didn%26#39;t like David Burke I%26#39;d feel responsible...glad it worked out, that $49 deal really is awesome, so many choices. I like Enoteca too...I%26#39;d hate to only stay one night, too much of a tease!!!
I think that sounds so exciting to fly in for one night!
It does sound very indulgent to fly somewhere for an evening. This was really the way airline travel was to evolve. We were to be able to fly to Paris for the weekend or either coast for dinner. Sounds like you two had a wonderful time.
kinda odd how you felt ';so crowded'; there? I can think of lots of other strip properties far more crowded than the Palazzo. As far as slow elevators go.. they%26#39;re about average in my opinion.. They are split into 3 banks but since you were on concierge level floors, you did have the slow group of elevators since thats where the bulk of the guest rooms are it seems. When I had to visit my friends room at the Palazzo I%26#39;d go up and down so fast on the higher floor elevators but the mid floor ones would take forever in comparision.
I also thought you had a one night stand at the Palazzo with David Burke. Hope his wife didn%26#39;t mind! :)
Glad you had fun!
One night stand with David Burke, ha! Well if he%26#39;s as good in the bedroom as he is in the kitchen...;)!
One night was kind of a tease, but I just flew one way and drove back with my husband, so it wasn%26#39;t too expensive! No big family vacation this year, so we didn;t feel too guilty about spending the money.
ez, it felt very crowded to me, but I guess it%26#39;s all relative. I like to get away from crowds, which is one reason I liked the concierge level so much.
Your TR sounds like a Foldgers Coffee commercial from the 1980%26#39;s. LOL I am glad it was a nice getaway. I remember you went to Palms Place recently also.
lol, 2112. Thanks for making me feel even older than I already am...!!!
