I got tunneled the last time we arrived in Vegas. That was the firs time it happened in 4 trips. Lately, I%26#39;ve heard from TR that the drivers will get agitated if you specify no tunnel. How about just handing him a $20 when I get in? :) It seems like a small issue to be thinking about but I HATE to be ripped off, no matter the cost.
Thanks for your thoughts.

...I always carry a $20 for the cab, if he tunnels us, he gets less of a tip.....I like your idea of letting them know up front....

I don%26#39;t know why people are scared to tell the driver ';no tunnel';, you have the right to select the route you want to take.
If you don%26#39;t want to use the tunnel just say the name of the hotel and Swenson, please! If the diver gets agiatated-so be it. It is not my responsibility to keep a cab driver happy. If he gets annoyed- well, it is not the first time someone has been annoyed with me and I know it won%26#39;t be the last time. That is his problem- not mine. If he gets vocal- then his tip will be reduced and I will tell him why. If he takes the tunnel anyway- he gets no tip and I make a call to the cab authority (I have the number in my cell although I have never had to use it). I am an adult and I refuse to be intimidated by a cab driver.
A few weeks ago, heading to MGM, I just said ';You%26#39;re taking Swenson to Tropicana, right';? And he said ';Of course';. Later we were discussing the tunnel and he said that it was dishonest for drivers to do that and that the taxi commission (or whatever the org is named) is cracking down on it.
Of the 4 or 5 taxi rides I had, all but one driver were very nice and personable. The one guy was a bit rough around the edges, but wasn%26#39;t rude. At least the drivers took a passing interest in the passengers and didn%26#39;t talk on their cell phones the ENTIRE time like they do here in the DC area.

I hear ya! That is the Jersey coming out in you. I feel the exact way you do. Feed them beans and F@%# them where they breath!
My current strategy, which worked well on my last trip, is to say when I get in the cab, ';I don%26#39;t have to tell you not to take the tunnel, right?'; This serves as a warning that you are no pigeon, without accusing the cab driver of anything.
As long as you%26#39;re not accusing them personally, there%26#39;s no reason for a cabbie to be offended because you know about this practice. If it embarrasses them, their union should put a stop to it.
Where is the tunnel? We stayed at the Mandalay Bay so I%26#39;m assuming we wouldn%26#39;t have been taken through it anyways?
If you are staying at Mandalay Bay you should be taken through the tunnel as it is the fastest route.
We did have the cab driver take us to Vons Grocery store first... I must have just missed it all in my excitement.
I am just renting a car from the airport for $20 per day, this rate includes all taxes and fees. Since the ride to TI will be about that from the airport. We plan to go to RRC the next morning then take the car back that day or hold onto it for a few days and do the other outside of LV exploring in the mornings. This way I can avoid the cab ride ordeal altogether.
