Despite all the badmouthing (not everyone, but most) on this site, we decided on 5 nights at the Stratosphere...an incredible bargain at around $34 a night average (including a Saturday night and upgraded to a ';room with a view';).
I wrote them an email asking if they had a hot tub available to guests this time of year. Here%26#39;s the reply:
';Our 8th floor pool is actually open year round and is heated of course. There is a hot tub there as well. It is open from 6am-6pm currently. I hope this answers your question! We look forward to seeing you at the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino!';
We stayed at Bob Stupak%26#39;s Vegas World twice, and we are familiar with the area. Sure, it%26#39;s slightly shady and not in the middle of the action, but in today%26#39;s economy the word %26#39;value%26#39; means a lot to me. I have a %26#39;value%26#39; rental car to get me around for $80 a week.
I%26#39;ve read a few reviews here, which on the whole do not seem too bad.
Please post your feelings/experiences about the Strat...good OR bad. I understand that those of you who are used to spending $200 or more a night will not think much of the Strat...I%26#39;m looking for opinions from the blue collar workers like myself.

The Strat is cheap but I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;d ever stay there just for the fact that it%26#39;s so far from everything.
Roxy%26#39;s Diner isn%26#39;t bad food, the casino is kind of themeless and boring but I%26#39;ve won money there.
I have to go there next time I%26#39;m out there to take the BF to the top of the tower. For some reason we didn%26#39;t do that last time we were there.

We stayed at the Strat a few years ago when we first started going to Vegas and it was fine. The rooms were not luxurious but we didn%26#39;t expect that, but they were very clean and comfortable and perfect for sleeping a few hours and taking a shower. It was our first trip there so we spent very little time in the room. Since you will have a car, location shouldn%26#39;t matter. I don%26#39;t remember much about food options but we really liked the casino and did pretty well there. Now that we%26#39;re established with several players clubs, we get our rooms comped but if we had to pay for rooms again, I would consider staying there. It was a good value for the price and I hate spending money on rooms that I%26#39;m never in!!!!
Have a great trip!!!
Agree the only thing wrong with the Strat is its location. The hotel was purchased by a subsidiary of Goldman Sachs (Whitehall) earlier this year:

Who knows what the current melt-down will be doing to their plans.
We try to get up there once a trip since they have good VP and DW and (now 23 year old) son are crazy for those rides.
good Luck!
We stayed at the Stat in March. It was great. The rooms were clean, staff was friendly, check-in took about 30 minutes or less with several reps working.
Charged as expected.
I am also a ';value'; traveler. I see no point in spending hundreds of dollars a night for a room with a bed. The Strat has fine beds, IMO.
They do have spa rooms with a jetted tub big enough for two people. If you check the price it is probably only a few dollars more than your ';room with a view';. Our spa room had a view as well that faced the strip.
Do not miis the tower. Awesome views. Free admission for guests between like 10 and 2, I think. A little wait to go up but you can stay as long as you want once up there. The rides on top were great.
I will be staying here again in March 09 and will visit places like Cp, Bellagio, etc. With a car you will not be disappointed. Have a great time.
On our first trip to Vegas we stayed at the Strat and it was fine. The only problem for us was the location. If you don%26#39;t mind driving, it won%26#39;t be any problem. For me, I just don%26#39;t want the responsibility of driving, especially if I%26#39;ve had a few drinks. Traffic is pretty bad too.
My husband and I have stayed at the Strat 3 or 4 times and have enjoyed every visit. Our rooms have been very clean, employees friendly and helpful for the most part (slot club not so much), food is good at the restaurants and we usually win there! We make it a point to stop in everytime we%26#39;re in Vegas. Wouldn%26#39;t hesitate to stay there again.
As long as you aren%26#39;t expecting anything luxurious, which you aren%26#39;t, then you will be fine. But, the location is pretty bad. I would ditch the car rental and find a hotel with a better location. You don%26#39;t really need it, unless you plan on venturing away from the strip.
I didn%26#39;t care for the location, too far from EVERYTHING! I%26#39;d rather stay downtown, get a good room and far better location and be close to several resorts. Good luck with whatever you choose.
I haven%26#39;t stayed there, but I enjoyed the casino and tower. It%26#39;s not luxury, but it was fun, and the casino had an energy to it, plus we won on every slot we played (which never happens to us!!!).
We also had great (ie: FAST cocktail service) and the drinks were actually good. I wasn%26#39;t expecting much, but it was the best Colorado Bulldog I had anywhere last trip.
I stayed there for 3 days about 2 years ago, and am scheduled to stay there for 2 days in february. the only problem I had was that I had one of their least expensive rooms, and the gentleman in the next room set his alarm to go off at 5 AM every morning. The pass through door was so thin that the sound came right through as if I was in the same room (even with a towel stuffed under it). I%26#39;m hoping that the room is a little quieter this time
