Things to do in December...

Will be in Vegas in December from 14-19. my girlfriend likes looking at Christmas decorations and what not. just wondering what might be out their to see and/or do to get in the Christmas spirit?

Thanks!

I%26#39;m afraid that Vegas isn%26#39;t the world%26#39;s greatest destination if you want to get all excited about Christmas. There%26#39;s a couple of places to see pretty lights but you%26#39;ll have to head off-Strip. Sam%26#39;s Town and the cactus garden at the Ethel M chocolate factory are worth checking out.

On the Strip the display at the Bellagio Conservatory is great and worth seeing (as it is irrespective of the time of year) but other than that there%26#39;s nothing really special.

I agree with blagger. For an over-the-top city LV does not do an over-the-top Christmas. The Bellagio always has its conservatory decorated, Caesars Palace usually has a big tree out in front and downtown has its own decorations and tree lighting ceremony.

Sam%26#39;s Town (it does have a shuttle)does decorate its indoor park nicely and changes its laser show and Ethel M Cactus Garden puts thousands of lights on its cacti and it looks beautiful at night. But you will need a car to get there.

Here is what was available last year:

Last year Town Square had nice decorations. This is a new shopping area and is an outdoor mall, designed to look a little retro I guess. They had the swags across the streets and a park area in the middle with a big tree decorated. Still looked a little strange to me with the palm trees decorated!

park25: If you%26#39;ll have a car and can get about, you could go to the Opportunity Village Magical Forest (located at the corner of Oakey and Torrey Pines, just behind the community college). Opportunity Village is a training/rehabilitation center for the ';handicapped';, and each year dozens of local companies set up holiday displays (some way over the top, others more modestly). It%26#39;s wonderful to stroll thru at night, and the proceeds go to help fund the Village. www.opportunityvillage.org/content/?c=28

Another large-scale, drive-thru, show of lights is the ';Gift of Lights'; at Sunset Park, located at the southeast corner of the airport at the intersection of Eastern and Sunset (tho the park itself is huge). You drive thru a vast array of displays in the comfort of your vehicle. Not free, but worth the cost to ';put you in the mood.'; lasvegassun.com/photos/…

Of course, there%26#39;s always the malls..........

Have a great trip.

Christmas is a beautiful time in this town..here are a few things that are must see if you visit our town.

1. Bellagio has a beautiful christmas light set up

2. Wynn- for the first time the Wynn will mesmerize guests with an outlandish display.

3. This is my personal favorite

Sunset Park offers the Gift of Lights. You drive through lit tunnels viewing over 400 animated twinkling light displays. You can tune in to a radio station and listen to christmas music while going through the park.

You do need to rent a car because the park is about 5 miles from the strip, but it is so amazing it will be worth it.

Thanks so much Livin and Angel! We will be in Vegas Dec 10-17, and will definitely check out your suggestions. Happy Holidays!

Thanks for the Sunset Park info....never even heard of it before.

You can visit the restored historic homes decorated for Christmas at the Clark County Museum, 1830 S Boulder Hwy, Henderson from 9am - 4:30pm. Admission $1.50.

Definitely go and see the conservatory at Bellagio, it%26#39;s absolutely gorgeous at Christmas.

If you%26#39;ll have a car, Springs Preserve also has a Christmas lights display on weekends - I haven%26#39;t been to this but we%26#39;re going this year - you can check out their website:

We did the drive through at Sunset Park and were kind of underwhelmed.

I have never been to the Sunset display but I know someone who lives in Vegas and did drive through. His reaction was much like your reaction. He said if his car had been the lead car it would have taken him less than 10 minutes to drive through it- it was so UN-impressive. He liked the Ethel M display much much more. Ethel M is beautiful at night during the holidays.
