mgm grand or south point?
Driving in Vegas is easy and I drive on the otheside of the road at the UK get a room at MGM
It is very difficult to drive the strip. Being across the street from NYNY, Mandalay, Luxor and Monte Carlo is better. MGM has the monorail to get you down the strip or even Hilton.
You just do not feel vegas a few mile down the road. More places to eat just in the MGM area and the largest casino.
Quality of the room is in your own taste. South Point seems more of a low end Orlando resort to me.
From what I find available on the %26#39;net%26#39;....Southpoint should by all accounts cost less. If you have rates that are only comparable, then you havn%26#39;t looked hard enough.
I have stayed at both places on my last stay. 2-nights Southpoint and 2-nights MGM. I liked them both, except the %26#39;hospitality%26#39; at the Southpoint was much better than MGM. The MGM was ok for going to other casino%26#39;s in that area, but my preference would be to stay at Southpoint, and take their shuttle to the strip, or drive to a mid strip property and park, then do the strip thing for a bit.
PS--the southpoint rooms IMO are twice as nice as the lowest priced MGM rooms.
I would stay at MGM Grand. We stayed there in a grand tower room in Sept and loved it. The rooms are bigger than average with the most comfortable beds and are nicely furnished with big nice bathrooms. There%26#39;s easy access to NYNY, Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay and there%26#39;s the monorail if you want to go to the other end of the strip. Food choices on that end of the strip are excellent. And MGM Grand has airport checkin if you arrive at terminal one and we loved that, such a timesaver. There was a short line and we got our keys and went straight to our room when we arrived at the hotel.
I really don%26#39;t think you can ';go wrong'; with either property because South Point is also very nice. You just have to decide whether you want to stay on or off the strip. If this is your first trip to Vegas, I would definitely stay on the strip.
Whatever you decide, have a wonderful trip.
Hi
We have stayed at both hotels, and I would go for South Point, bigger and better room there, plus cheaper food options than right on the strip. They have a nice cafe and their buffet is in the mid/better range, but of course not the Wynn etc. We have never had a problem with getting to the strip from there and when we last stayed it was before the slip road was completed so should be even easier than then. You can park right out front of the hotel which saves loads of time compared to finding your way round a multi story car park, so thats nicer than a strip hotel when you have a car.

Stayed at both and love both.
South Point has the larger room, flat screens, and a very long sink, with seperate toilet/bath room. They also have a coffee maker
Prices are definately cheaper for food. Breakfast buffet is inexpensive and good. Haven%26#39;t eaten other buffet times there. Cafe is good food. Italian food there is great. They also have a decent priced prime rib loft.
Driving Koval or Frank Sinatra/Industrial will help you avoid strip traffic, where you can drive to any location, park, and enjoy.
MGM is in the heart of the action where you can walk to many places. Tons of action under one roof.
After reading all valuable advice given by you guys i booked mgm grand.I know that south point is also a very good choice but i think that we should stay on the strip as this is our first vegas strip and short stay so i don%26#39;t want to waste time in driving to strip....Thanks
You didn%26#39;t mention it was your 1st trip. If you had EVERYONE would have recommended staying at MGM. It%26#39;s a very different experiance staying so far off-strip.
For your 3rd trip you might want to schedule 3 nights on the Strip, and then move to South Point for a couple of nights. By then you will be better prepared to appreciate South Point and make a comparison.
BTW: I agree the South Point rooms are MUCH superior to MGM%26#39;s.
