I will be making my 1st ever trip to LV the last week of April and am totally confused at choosing a hotel.. I was all set to book The Orleans until a friend told me I should absolutely stay on the strip for my 1st vist. Ouch..I%26#39;m on a budget and am really just wanting a clean safe place to stay. I plan on using the hotel as my base, with a couple day trips planned to the Grand Canyon %26amp; Hoover Dam..I am now considering the Stratosphere... prices are ';cheap';..reviews are mixed... any advise would be much appreciated!!
Las Vegas Virgin needs Hotel help...
It is too early to get good prices on Hotels for the end of April. I am going in May and having the same problem. Wait until January or February and the hotels should have better deals. And definately stay on the strip if this is your first time.
Las Vegas Virgin needs Hotel help...
The Strat is a dump. Given the choice between those, Orleans is just a far from the action of the mid srip but has more lively casino of the two.
For budget properties keep an eve out for specials and consider:
The Imeprial palace
Harrahs
Bally%26#39;s
The Flamingo
Excalibur
Monte Carlo
You might also find some great deals at MGM and TI that won;t break the bank. Start shopping in January for April discounts.
I just got 5 nights in May (10-15) at Treasure Island for $476. Not my first choice of hotel but it%26#39;s cheap, nice and half way between the south strip and downtown.
If you%26#39;re on a tight budget you can always try a classic room at Flamingo or a Deluxe room at Imperial Palace, both are not top tier hotels but the rooms are clean and it%26#39;s right in the middle of all the action.
Hi seagoer55,
Welcome to the forum!
I would suggest you book a hotel now at the best deal you can find, but book directly so you can cancel/move without penalty. The hotels mentioned by a previous poster are a good start.
Then, by mid-January you should start finding better deals posted at the hotel sites, here and on fatwallet, and you can book a better rate.
I think staying on-strip for your first visit is a good plan, but also stay mid-strip. The Stratosphere may have a strip address, but it%26#39;s not in the middle of the action.
If you decide off-strip, I would suggest Gold Coast over Orleans - it is near the Rio and Palms, and is a short 3-5 minute free shuttle ride to the centre of the strip.
Whatever happens, I hope you have a good time!!!

Thanks for the advise...I just seem to get more %26amp; more confused with every review I read...maybe I should just stop reading reviews..lol..
On my most recent trip, I booked MGM 3 months in advance for $169/night (Fri and Sat nights). 5 weeks before the trip, I found a deal for $129/night. 2 weeks before the trip, I found a deal for $99/night. Just make sure that whatever reservations you make are able to be cancelled and cancel and rebook (at that hotel or another) as needed.
Do not be confused or discouraged. Since you have time, go to Harrah%26#39;s and MGM/Mirage web sites and sign up for email specials.
Presently you can find rooms from $39 to $119.
I do agree your first time should be on the strip. Nothing wrong with Orleans and there is a shuttle that takes you to and from strip, but limited hours and you do not have access to your room when you need it.
You will get all kinds of likes and dislikes about all the hotels.
The Strat is on the very end of the strip (really not on the strip. It is one of the older hotels and avg rate is $69. (Too soon for specials to be posted)
If this is your price range, check TI, Harrah%26#39;s, Ballys, Luxor, NYNYand Monte Carlo. Rooms cost about same. Even will see Mirage %26amp; Paris specials at this price.
You will be surpised at the rates once you sign up.
Not really knowing your likes and dislikes makes it hard to help on specific hotels for you, but again central strip would be Ballys, Harrah%26#39;s, Flamingo, IP. All of which are clean and safe, but you will get a lot of negative comments on IP.
The GC and Hoover Dam trips take a good part of the day.
I encourage you to stay on Strip as well.
ILTheDuke%26#39;s list is excellent. I%26#39;d recommend you go to each one of those casino%26#39;s websites and drop in the dates of your visit. No need to log in or have a credit card ready if you are just browsing. The websites will tell you the casino rates for your stay - hopefully one will be in your budget.
Tell us which one(s) you like if you want more commentary!
Hi seagoer55, I went to Bill%26#39;s Gamblin%26#39; Hall %26amp; Saloon%26#39;s website (billslasvegas.com) and plugged in April 26th thru the 30th on their room rates calculator. It came up with $90 on Sunday night and $70 for each weeknight that week, which is a great rate for a Strip hotel/casino right in the middle of the action. They%26#39;re on the NE corner of Flamingo %26amp; Las Vegas Blvd., well within walking distance to lots of interesting casinos, and some of the rooms have views of the Bellagio fountains.
My hubby %26amp; I have stayed at Bill%26#39;s and loved the room (great beds and very clean), location, and smaller scale of the place. It%26#39;s one of the few hotels on the Strip where it doesn%26#39;t take 15 minutes to get from your car in the parking garage to your room. This place would absolutely fit your need for a clean, safe place to stay on a budget.
It%26#39;s not the Wynn or Caesars Palace, but for the money and location you can%26#39;t beat it. I would choose Bill%26#39;s over Orleans any time. I wouldn%26#39;t stay at the Stratosphere even for $19 a night.
And, no, I don%26#39;t work for Bill%26#39;s, lol.
Yeah, you need to stay on the strip. And don%26#39;t do the stratosphere, since it isn%26#39;t really the strip either.
What is your budget? That would be useful to know.
