Day 1 - Leaving mid 30 temps, we arrived in Vegas to high 60’s low 70’s… what a treat! Got in a fairly short taxi line, we asked our cab driver to take us to Von’s Grocery store first. Pop, water, snacks, and alcohol, now we are ready for our week in Vegas. We checked into TheHotel at Mandalay Bay. WOW! The normal rooms here are all suites… way nice! A living room with a wet bar and bathroom. A bedroom with his and hers closets, safe, big tv. A HUGE bathroom with a tub, separate shower, and small tv. We put our clothes away, had a drink to cheers our week in Vegas and off we went. We toured the Mandalay Bay (they have their own Tattoo Parlor), signed up for the Player’s Club cards, played their $5 and after an hour or two won $40 on Party Poker, played some slots at neighboring Luxor and Excalibur, then as bf found me snoozing more than playing, we headed to bed.
Day 2 – Worked during day. That night we cabbed over to Hooter’s hotel. Cute little country casino. Bought our tickets to the Mentalist. Signed up for Player’s club, got $100 in free slot play, of course at a certain roped off area, and you had to Max Bet each time. No winner winner chicken dinner. We then went to the bar and put $20 a piece in the poker/blackjack machines. This bartender was good, she gave us drinks right away and had us another drink before I had completely finished mine without asking! SWEET! Had a couple drinks then went to the show. I had a “Free” coupon for the show with purchase of a $7.95 drink each. So we ordered our drinks (BIG tippy cup size Cap’t Diet) and were seated. Gerry McCambridge was pretty good as long as you believe he didn’t plant anyone in the audience. We wrote our full names on a 3x5 card, then a question we wanted an answer to, and then something shocking that the person we are with doesn’t know. So he would call out people and say stuff from the cards. Pretty cool! Back out to our spot at the bar. This same bartender had our drinks to us BEFORE we had even settled down and got our money in the slots!!!! After a few we decided (okay I decided) we should eat something, so we bellied up to the bar at the Hooter’s restaurant, started playing the slots there, ordered 10 hot wings and a HUGE Bleu Burger… can you say free drinks again? Walked over to MGM and played a few there. Then into New York New York and played a few but I was falling asleep again (do we see a pattern?) So we headed home… about 11:30pm. Walked over the bridge thingy and then took the free tram.
Day 3 – After working all day, we took the Deuce (the double decker bus) to Downtown for $2 a piece one way. It took about 45min but we got to see the whole strip from the front seats upstairs. Video poker and 99 cent shrimp cocktail at Fitzgerald’s I think… had to do it! Spicy Tuna roll and steak dinner at Triple 7 Brewpub in Main St Station, the steak was suppose to be medium but was pretty crispy on the outside. Gambled at 4 or more casinos. Then Deuced it back… much quicker at 2:30am than at 9pm.
Day 4 – Another day of work, then we cabbed over to the Rio. Ate chili cheese fries and pizza at the sports book bar, while playing video poker and getting free beer and watching the Jets win. Then we played some slots. Then up to the Voodoo Lounge before 10pm as I had a pass to get us in free – thanks TA posters! That place is GORGEOUS! On the 51st floor, you can go outside to the bar and have the most incredible views! Great music inside and out. I had a HUGE ';What the Witch Dr. Ordered'; drink $25, but it turned out to be worth it as most drinks were $10, and that one lasted me all night. Went back down to the casino level and played some more outside an Irish bar that had great music. BF put in $13 and cashed out $102 ;) Then cabbed back to Mandalay and ate at the Raffles 24 hr cafe. BF had breakfast but I had the YUMMY Halibut Taco%26#39;s with guac and rice!
Day 5 – no work, slept in, walked the strip to Planet Hollywood, shopped and played slots then saw Gregory Popovich’s Comedy Pet Theatre (2 for 1 tickets thanks TA), continued down to Bill’s, saw Big Elvis perform, over to Margaritaville, sat at the bar to watch the lady slide down into the big Margarita glass and ordered the Volcano Nachos everyone raved over, they were the best!!! Everyone at the bar was watching to see if we could finish them, as another couple at the end of the bar had not finished theirs yet but had decided they would sit there til they did J, we had plans for the night so could not finish the nachos, walked back to TheHotel, napped for over an hour, then dressed up and headed to the Palms. Played some video poker at bar and ordered drinks. This was the first bar that said I had to play max bet to get comp’d drinks. Maybe because it was a Friday night, but the Palms definitely had the youngest and most drunk crowd of all the casinos we’d been at. BF had VIP access to all four clubs so we started at Rain (huge danceclub), Ghostbar (lounge with panoramic view), Moon (dance floor with a retractable roof), then Playboy Club (where we got to see a middle aged man playing the $500 min bet table with five 21 yr old girls surrounding him), good people watching. All were SUPER cool and SUPER expensive… so glad we didn’t have to pay cover.
Day 6 – sadly last morning there, ate a delicious mini chocolate Éclair from the Chocolate Swan, played BF’s mom’s $15 on a MB slot, doubled it, then off to the airport. Back to the frigid Midwest!
Thinking of all the things I want to do on our next trip (at least one buffet, a Hypnotist show, a Texas Hold’em tourney, etc). Thanks for all the great advice from the forum posters!!!

Vegas Trip Report - Nov 10th thru 15th (Couple in 30's)
Hiya, no I would not stay at the Palms, as it is too far off the Strip to walk and it was too young and pretentious for us... we like the music of the younger crowd but sadly are a little bit older and like to have some peace and quiet once in a while :)
Gotskilz. Great TR.Thanks.
I would also have thought that the people were ';planted'; at the mentalist show at Hooters, however, my DH%26#39;s question got answered so I am a ';believer';. Welll. My thoughts were that they had cameras above each table? I%26#39;d like to go again and see if the same ';areas'; had people chosen from. For $7.95 it was quite enjoyable.
Sounds like you had fun, The Hotel is on our list of places to stay. Thanks for the TR
Did you like the Popvoich show? I was thinking of seeing either that one or the new game show next week. I have watched the trailers for Popovich and it looks really cute.
Good TR thanks for sharing your Vegas experience, sounds like you had a lot of fun %26amp; that%26#39;s what it%26#39;s all about. Can%26#39;t wait to be there for NYE!!!!!
Sounds like you had an amazing time, thanks for sharing
Sounds like you had fun.. just wondering how you guys got VIP access to all four clubs at the palms?
Kgouin, we did think the show was cute but not sure I would have thought it was as cute if we had paid $80 instead of $40.
Yes, would totally do the Mentalist again at that price! Very good entertainment!
