Christmas in Vegas... Err Snow?

Hey there,

We are thinking about Christmas in Vegas and since coming from Florida thought we would take a drive but wondering how far we would have to go for snow... or is that even possible?

THanks!

Christmas in Vegas... Err Snow?

Ha! How%26#39;s it in Winter Haven! Lakeland here.

If you%26#39;re driving to Vegas from Florida more than likely you%26#39;ll be driving I-10 for most of the way out there. That interstate stays in southern states and I doubt you%26#39;d see any snow on the ground. The mountains, yes.

Maybe if you drove up to Utah there%26#39;d be snow....I%26#39;m not sure how the weather works out west I just there will be snow on the mountain tops. We went in May this year and there was snow on the mountains still LoL.

Have fun!!!

Christmas in Vegas... Err Snow?

Oh wow, I just realized you said you wanted to go from a drive while you%26#39;re in Vegas. Ha I%26#39;m an idiot. In that case, maybe try driving north toward Utah. Park City, Salt Lake City, etc.

Hey there! Cold today huh!!??

No we are flying but thinking maybe a drive from Vegas for a day while there. How would that be?

It%26#39;s nice to drive out of town for a day just to get away from Vegas for a little bit. I%26#39;ve always wanted to drive up to the Bonneville Salt Flats but never did it.....

There is a small Ski/Snowboard Resort on Mt. Charleston- less than an hour away from the strip.

Ha...Veep beat me to it! I was going to suggest that to you too :)

Ok great I%26#39;m going to look at that, and you think there will be snow there Christmas through New Years? Sorry being from the south I know nothing about the snow thing!

yes Charleston should have snow during that time.

Drive up to Mt. Charleston - it%26#39;s only about a 45 minute drive from Las Vegas, and it%26#39;s a whole different world - evergreens and snow!

ImHisBlonde1: Yes, we currently have snow on the very top of Mt. Charleston, and will probably get a bit more in the coming week. By the middle of December, there should be more. In case the snow-fall is light, the ski resort will have already started up their snow machines, so you can see some no matter what. However, Mt. Charleston isn%26#39;t the only place for snow ... you could try going to Mt. Potosi, or even go thru the pass to Pahrump. Heck, I even get snow in my area, but it%26#39;s usually only a dusting and is gone in a flash. (By the way, it does occasionally snow in the Vegas valley, but that%26#39;s rare, doesn%26#39;t last long, and most folks here have no clue how to drive in it --- usually lots of accidents those days!!)

Just to let you know, tho, if you head up the mountain road, and there is a heavy snow-fall going on (or has just happened), you will be stopped to make sure you have snow tires or chains.... Otherwise, it%26#39;s a no biggie.

It%26#39;s beautiful up there with the snow, but cold, so be sure to bring appropriate clothes for when you get up there.
