Just wondering how much people generally tip the housekeeping staff in LV? For waiters/waitresses there is more or less a standard we use (ie minimum 10-15% if service is so so or bad, 20-25% or sometimes even more if service is good/exceptional).
But for housekeeping services we%26#39;ve never used a ratio like this (ie say % of room rate). We generally leave a set amount per day. That amount does depend on the nature of the property we are at (ie a more expensive place we%26#39;ll leave more etc.).
Does anyone use a % of room rate or some such when deciding how much too tip? How much would be appropriate if your room was say avg $100/night?
How much to tip housekeeping?
$5 a day should be fine
How much to tip housekeeping?
We do the per day thing. Be sure to leave it each day as housekeeping staff changes. Not sure the amount has anything to do with the rate for the room.
we always leave $5 per day, regardless of what we paid for the room.
about $5 a day is fine.
if you%26#39;re really clean folks and don%26#39;t need any extra supplies, then don%26#39;t worry if you only leave $3
if you%26#39;re quite messy and/or have a bunch of extra requests (glasses, towels, shampoo etc) then you might want to leave a couple extra dollars.
either way, don%26#39;t sweat about it. i imagine that if the maids see a couple dollars as a gesture, they%26#39;ll be pleased. and at the end of the day, it is a TIP. meaning it%26#39;s not required, you only have to give one if you desire.
and to be totally honest, i often forget to leave a tip in hotels. i%26#39;d say on average i tip about 60% of the time... but there%26#39;s a lot of days when i%26#39;m rushing out of the room and totally forget to leave something. and i don%26#39;t ever notice that the room is made up better when i had left a tip.
For most hotels (Las Vegas or anywhere else) I leave $5 per day for the morning maid, and $3-$5 for the evening maid if there is one. At Motel-type lodging I often leave $3 per day.
Of course, we leave more if we have a larger suite.
I leave $5 a day.. unless they have a turn down service then an additional 5 in the evening.
I never tip housekeepers. Their job is to make the place clean. If they fail at that, then they have failed at their job. If they succeed, then they have succeeded at their job. I don%26#39;t have any interaction with them. I don%26#39;t know if they did their job quickly or slowly. Their behavior on the job hardly affects me (if at all). Tipping is for personal service (e.g. waitstaff, concierge, etc...) and should reflect the quality of that service. How am I to judge the service of housekeeping when I don%26#39;t even interact with them?
I do all my tip envelopes prior to leaving home, but do not seal them. I put $5.00 in each for the corresponding day. If I need to add more for additional services, I do. I mark each envelope
';housekeeping'; this way they know it is for them.
I always get additional towels with out asking and extra creams and shampoos.

Couldn%26#39;t agree more Binkylover.
We usually leave $3 to $5 a day, depending on the quality of the hotel. We don%26#39;t base it on the cost of the room in Vegas; that can vary tremendously because of promotions, comps, etc. Making beds and picking up after other people all day long is back breaking work, and I appreciate coming back after a hard day of playing to a nice, clean room. ;^)
